Yup. It looks like McDowell county is going to have to run the new superintendent and school board members out. It'll never happen here.

If the students want to pray, they have a constitutional right to. Do not think you can remove their rights because of this being a "small town."

Separation of church and state. Education is a government entity=state funded. Therefore, they have the complete right to ban any prayer in school.

They don't actually. If it is student led then yhe students have every right. The only reason a school official can't is because they are supposed to be looked upon as role models and as an authoritive figure. So it seems like they force it. Students may pray if they wish, so long as there is mo administrator running it. It's sad that im an Atheist and i think this new movement from the super intend. is bullcrap.

The separation of church and state was meant to keep government from controlling religion. It means that the government does not have the right to tell you how to worship. This separation doesn't mean an absence of religion.

Exactly! And " separation of church and state" is NOT in the constitution, as some seem to believe...it was a line in a letter meant to reassure a church that the government would not interfere with their religious beliefs.

Yeah, haha. It was Thomas Jefferson writing to some Baptist group I believe. But, the idea that schools can not make students pray/worship God was actually done by different Supreme Court cases in reference to the Establishment clause.

Actually this will create MORE prayer in schools, at ballgames, etc. Maybe she doesn't realize it, but it'll backfire. It'll be fine. Gotta look at the bright side. We can't change ignorance but we can do whatever WE want to do. All religions are free to pray/meditate at moments of silence. Titans gathering in the middle of the court or field for a moment if silence is a beautiful thing. Rec ball and little league should follow suit. What are they going to do? Drag us all out if there? Doubt it!

Tell me, where in the constitution, or any other shaping document, is seperation of church and state mentioned?

What we have is a freedom of religion that no government entity can limit in any way. Therefore, we have a complete right to pray anywhere and in any way that we want.

Separation of Church and State is based in the Establishment Clause of the 1st Amendment.

False, no right is unlimited. If your religion states that you should sacrifice people to your god, the government can prevent you from doing so.

Not if you are a school (government) official and your prayer is being done to indoctrinate students.

Judge him badly if you want but he has an excellent point. most of you people need to realize that not everyone around you is a christian and what you are doing may offend us. think of other people, remember your own golden rule.. if you've read your bible that is.
