Kinda sucks that the Kooks from Asheville can make it harder for the folks in Swannanoa to incorporate.

Guess Asheville has its eyes on the town for its own annexation????? Scumbags.

See folks, Asheville wants you for their own, they want your money, and to control your land, and if you don't let them, then they take it all from you.

But, you get Asheville services, which you pay for over and above your taxes, you get water run off fees, you get fees for your wells, your septic tanks, your parking, your streets.

What you don;t get is, schools, fire protection (you already have it), police (you already have it), ambulance (you already have it), water (you already have it), and so forth.

Asheville wants you and know what, they will have you in their pockets and you will not have a single say so in the matter.

So.....when exactly did the Swannanoa Police Department get certified????? I think I missed that one.

How will APD, short on officers already, patrol and protect Swannanoa? They can't.

Read the news article carefully. City council said City planners recommend moving the proposed western boundary. Council is hiding behind their planners. They are trying to spin this into being cooperative but make no mistake asheville does not want Swannanoa to to incorporate.

Several years ago when Fletcher began the process of incorporation asheville city council said they had no intentions of annexing that far south. Shortly after Fletcher formally filed for incorporation asheville filed a lwasuit trying to block it.

Swannanoa, you will be in a city limits. Do you want to be in asheville or Swannanoa?

"Not all Swannanoa residents support forming a town. Some say they don’t want the additional taxes and Asheville by annexation was not a real possibility."

The residents of Swannanoa who THINK that Ashseville won't annex them are a bunch of fools. The very fact that council is demanding Swannanoa shrink THEIR boundary giving Asheville more room to annex is proof that Asheville is going to annex as close to Black Mountain as possible in the future. They proposed annexation map published a few weeks ago proves it and that's just for the next 5 years. People in Enka never thought they'd be where they are 10 years ago either. It's not a question of whether or not you'll be annexed, it's a question of when.

1911,
I believe the insinuation was that the Sheriff's Department already provides police service to the citizens of Swannanoa.

Consider that last year Bellamy gave an interview about combining city and county government where she referenced that Charlotte city limits encompassed ALL of Mecklenburg county. She stated that WHEN, not if, this happens it would be taken care of.

Don't be fooled Swannanoa, it WILL happen eventually!

It won't happen anywhere in North Carolina if citizens will stand tall and elect representatives who are against "FORCED ANNEXATION!" North Carolina's legislature is controlled by a giant lobbying effort by the "LEAGUE OF MUNICIPALITIES", which is funded by the cities in North Carolina and they want to keep FORCE ANNEXATION. Our state is one of the last 4 states in the entire US that still allows FORCED ANNEXATION and all because the League pads the pockets of many who are supposed to be representing us. Folks who aren't in incorporated areas like Fairview, Riceville and so on had better pay attention otherwise you'll get forcably annexed by a municipality like Asheville or even Swannanoa if it becomes incorporated. Whatever happened to the will of the people?

Last week there was a hearing held by State legislators at AB Tech on Annexation, noticably absent from that hearing was the Swannanoa Group for incorporation. Why? Because incorporation of Swannanoa has nothing to do with protecting it from Asheville and everything to do with a minority of outsiders wanting control! Watch out mobile home owners because you're on their list for elimination and their proposed budget is a farce to get folks to support them.

In the final analysis, if Asheville refuses to approve Swannanoa's incorporation, the matter will go before the N.C. General Assembly. It will require 2/3 of the legislature to approve the incorporation or it won't pass. Leicester tried to get Asheville's approval for incorporation and it failed to do so. The matter was then brought before the N.C. legislature for approval. Apparently, Leicester failed to get the 2/3 approval and so its incorporation remains in limbo. I hope this doesn't happen to Swannanoa in its attempt to incorporate considering all the hard work performed by volunteers of getting qualifying signatures and other required steps.
Do you naive Swannanoa residents that oppose incorporation now truly believe Asheville will not try to annex your territory for ten years? As someone put it - it's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when."

The city told Leicester that they were to big when what they really meant was Leicester was to close. Leicester cut their boundary on the back side and the city still wants more cut on the front side next to them. You can bet that the city will annex anything they can. If you would have asked the folks in Skyland 25-30 years ago if they would be annexed they would probably have said the city will never be here. Well guess where they are now.

Thank you. I wondered what was going on with that.
