GOSHEN Orange County Executive Edward Diana Tuesday blasted "the incompetence" of state government in the wake of the Transportation Department's decision to cancel plans to study the proposed widening of Route 17 from Harriman to Monticello.

Thank god NYS cancelled all plans to widen highway 17.
Highway widening does NOT work; it only generates more traffic, pollution, and congestion. Such a widening is a total waste of money and resources.
It is simply not possible for everyone to use their private vehicle for every transportation need!
Public transportation is the answer. It is time to study bringing passenger trains back to Orange and Sullivan County.
