On August 9 from 3-8p.m. we can vote at the library. This Bond referendum is completely flawed and involves a sweetheart deal to purchase the failed Cohen's Bakery. There are numerous other vacant buildings on Broadway with parking. Vote No!

Vote No on August 9. The Monticello Library in January had a major renovation to the library where they threw out all the beautiful wood paneling and shelves which were original to the founding of the library. They replaced the old shelves with plastic garbage. They destroyed the historical integrity of the library. Now the insiders want to spend 5.3 million dollars for the purchase and renovation of the failed Cohen's Bakery. This whole thing smells to high heaven. The truth is that this is not needed because the library doesn't have the patronage to warrant spending this amount of money. Why did they choose this old building? There are better and much cheaper alternatives on Broadway with parking. How did the insiders arrive at $600,000.00 for Cohen's Bakery when buildings right nearby have recently sold for pennies at the recent County Auction? They are giving the impression that the operating costs of the library will remain the same. That is a Lie. They will go up dramatically. Why the haste and the secrecy? Could it be that the insiders did not want the public to have any input in the process? Vote No on August 9 from 3 to 8p.m. at the Monticello Library on Broadway next to Rite Aid. There is parking at Rite Aid and across the street. Come out and Vote No against the insiders on August 9!

Now the insiders are saying that you have to approve their plan calling for $600,000.00 going to the owner of the failed Cohen's Bakery and many millions more in order to help the handicapped. People of the Town of Thompson there are numerous buildings on Broadway in Monticello which are far better choices for the handicapped. This is an extremely expensive and wasteful use of money thought up by the library insiders for all the wrong reasons. Vote No on August 9.

Why won't the library answer any questions about the proposed referendum?

There is something very fishy about the whole thing. Recently the County had an auction where it sold properties on Broadway for almost nothing. The library had a renovation in January and then suddenly there is this deal to buy the empty Cohen's Bakery. An old dilapidated building is proposed with a price tag of $600,000.00 going to its owner. Where was the public discussion regarding numerous other properties on Broadway? Vote No on August 9 from 3 to 8p.m. at the Monticello Library. We deserve honesty and decency in a process like this not a covert deal cooked up by library insiders.
