I would be extremely happy to replace one of the most corrupt senators in the US with anyone. McConnell is a terrible human and needs to go. I have no idea about Ashley Judd's politics, but I'll almost certainly vote for her if she's on the ballot. That's how bad Mitch is.

you and I have disagreed many times but this is certainly one topic that I totally agree with you. Actually I feel that he and Rogers both need to go but Rogers was just re-elected.

Yes. Hal is corrupt as well, and definitely needs to go, but at least he isn't in the position of power that Mitch has. You know what needs to happen?
12 year congressional term limits, massive pay reduction, and a complete cut of lifelong congressional benefits, people. That needs to happen, along with the elimination of ALL lobbies. I promise we would not be in this situation if being a member of congress was a sacrifice that a great person made in service to the country that allowed them to become what they are, instead of the equivalent of being handed a golden goose.

I've often thought for a long time that the root of corruption in this country was the relationship between congressmen and lobbyists. However, there are some serious problems in the way of actually severing these ties through legislation. You seem like a well read person, so I'm curious what your idea is on the matter.

I would have too agree 100% on this one. Limits & cut the fat... Make it a sacrifice to serve ... Not the golden egg.

The biggest problem, in my eyes, is that any laws preventing all forms of current lobbying could have the side effect of preventing valid communication of minorities, or oppressed citizens of any sort, to representatives. That is not what needs to happen.

The best way to eliminate "bad" lobbying over time while still protecting the people would be to, first, remove the option of gifts of any sort (by that I mean both meals/trips and the like AND campaign contributions to any individual or party). Second, remove the option of ANY congressman or staffer from participating in a lobby once they are done serving the people of the country. Third, massive earmark reform. Prevent all representatives from funneling money back to any party that lobbies. Earmarks should be reserved for measures that actually benefit the people in a given area, not just a short list of corporations that are guaranteed to kick back a little to the congressman that put in the earmark ( la Hal).

As you see, these types of things don't eliminate valid lobbying (i.e. from groups representing actual people like NAACP, AARP, ACLU, etc.), but they do eliminate the most damaging sort of corporate lobbying. These actions, coupled with the term and benefit reductions I previously discussed, would go very far to eliminate the corrupt congressman.

Who invited this sort of stupidity to an intelligent adult discussion? Be gone, idiot.

BTW, I don't even like Obama, and I'm certainly not a fan. I'm just smart enough to know which scumbags are worse.

Yes Hal & Mitch are so powerful that only Father Time can stop them . Term limits would be a step in the right direction .

Why do people like you exist? Just to give intelligent people a reason to be ashamed of their species?

You're an idiot. You have no purpose. You have no goal. You have no positive impact on the world, and instead (perhaps unwillingly) make things worse for almost everyone. You buy whatever they feed you and hate who they want you to hate.

Though vastly outnumbered, there will always be people like me. People who won't let intellectualism be defeated by stupidity. People who don't stand around and watch others be oppressed. And despite your efforts, your kind will lose. Sure, it will take a while. You can't overcome millions of self destructive morons without a great deal of time and effort. Not even 100 years ago, women could not vote. Not even 50 years ago, black people could be restricted from using the same water fountains as white people. Not even 15 years ago, the federal government could discriminate against you based on sexual orientation.

Yes, you will lose. The injustices of today will become nothing but a shameful history. Enlightenment will continue to overcome the destructive dark ages mentality that you and so many others possess.

So, let me get this straight... spending 10-15 minutes a day typing things on Topix = sitting on it all day, can't possibly have a job, and surely gets some sort of government assistance? Hypocrisy much? Well, I already said you were an idiot so I do not expect anything other than idiocy from you. You delivered.
In truth you are wrong on all counts. I'm not putting my detailed personal info on here, regardless, but I will go ahead and toot my own horn since you want to talk trash. I have done, and continue to do, more for others (even trash like you) than you will ever do. I've been employed since I was a teenager. I happen to have an immense skill set, so I am valuable to my employer and make more than 90% of the people in your town (though nowhere near as much as I would make if I lived in a real population center). So needless to say, I do not receive a penny from any government welfare programs.
