I don't know about anyone else but I (as predicted) haven't heard even a rumor of any new industry coming close to Monticello. These kids in the Mayor's and Judge Executive office haven't got a clue which way to turn . Absolutely no experience. They build dream towns with lincoln logs and erector sets hidden in their drawers. Those of you who say they are doing a wonderful job...please show me!! They said they they could get city/county back on track. They were voted in as new young blood...not a word from either one of them in way of hope for this town. At this rate it will soon look like a town boarded up for a coming hurricane. Oh yea, maybe there will be a few liquor stores scattered among the ruins.
Excellent post "Wings"!!!! Our infantile so-called mayor & judge exec. are interested in only one thing, and that's, "when's the next party, let tha good times roll"??!!

Too bad some of you dislike SE Ky.I guess I'm a loser then due to me spending a lot of money there on my vacations. The country is nice and the people friendly.I really love it down there.I would be more than happy to trade places with you.You can live here where crime is rampant and people cannot leave without locking everything up.Granted the economy there is behind the times and the technology is basically non-existent.All in all it is a safe place to live and the crime rate is very low.I have family that moved there and they really enjoy it.I bet most of the whiners are people who do not work and make no effort to try to improve the area there.Where ever you go you will have people like that.I learned to let them whine in their own misery. That is what they want.
Thank you Robert C. Some people just do not know when they are well off. They will hopefully grow older & wiser with time & see the value of what is so obvious to others.

Hey Wow,you ever travel this country? You ever travel around the world? You ever try to run for office to solve these problems? You ever go to council meetings to voice your concerns? You ever try to educate others about these problems?Wayne Co. is a very small part of the country and you have no clue to how bad other places are.Sure they are going to be some corruption. One of the best definitions of politics was very well spoken by one of my old professors,Poly means more than one and a tick is a blood-sucking parasite.Travel around and get involved in places like Somalia,Afghanistan, most of the Middle East and then you will learn how easy life is in little ole' Wayne Co.

Ahhh! Good to see you in here CSB. If I might add I keep visualizing that name.It is stuck in my mind now.Shame on you, lol. On a more serious note, I've spent a quite bit of time in Wayne and Pulaski county since I was born.I have always loved it there and I will move there eventually.I have some relatives that fit the woe is me I don't have nothing.Them I just avoid like the plague.Life is what you make of it.it is too short, go out and have some fun.Go have sex or wank your crank if you got to.

Why does it matter to you since you don't live here???? HUH???? Most enjoy our beautiful country-side, rolling hills & lil' mountains,
and of course our wonderful Lake. So take your depression & "woe is me" life to people who care because we know what we have here in Wayne County, KY, and we're proud that God has given us this precious area to live!!
It's hard to build a life for your family with just beautiful country side, rolling hills and little mountains. Believe me, I tried. Also needed is good medical care, education, wages, and something to do besides go to church. I finally gave up and moved away after giving Wayne County a big chunk of my life. My children moved after college and now have better jobs and a hope for the future. We live in a community with much to offer besides drugs and a government check.

Oh sure there are problems in any part of the world, but since WC has pretty much shut itself off from the rest of the world the problems it has should not exist. Monticello is not a great place. Of course you like it, you only visit. Anyone that visits can tolerate it for a short time. Hope you never get hurt while down here on vacation. Monticello doesn't even have a real hospital. They only do minor things and send patients to Somerset or elsewhere. There have been many many people that have DIED due to the lack of a proper healthcare system here in Monticello. Monticello is also infested with crime. I wouldn't be telling anyone I didn't lock my doors while in Monticello. People in Monticello even go so far as to strip the copper off of anything they think has it. The jail has a revolving door on it, and within just the last few years there have been several Monticello people involved in heinous crimes. Yes there is crime in any city. However in Monticello there is no escape from it. At least in a bigger city you can live in an area that is safe. No where in Monticello is safe from crime. Every single citizen in Monticello has been affected by crime or drugs in some sort of manner.

You may think coming to visit a "country" town is fun, but for many that live there it isn't fun. There are hundreds of people that are suffering and are miserable.

You can talk about problems being everywhere else, but the fact is Monticello's problems are KILLING the town. Other cities have means and options for continued industry and development. Monticello's only growing industry is the criminal and judicial industry.

Oh and yes I work and no I don't live there. I know many working people that are sick and tired of Monticello. Like I have said many many many times before...I'd like to see Monticello change and actually do something. I'd like to see the city grow and become what it should be. Sadly Monticello will never change. Everyone living there will be forced to sit and watch Somerset and the surrounding counties grow and prosper, while Monticello wastes away.

Oh and considering that there is little to no technology in Monticello, no real medical care system, a failing educational system, a high poverty rate, a increasing crime rate, and a huge drug epidemic, you could compare it to a 3rd world country.

I for one hope that you are happy wherever you live now as Monticello certainly did not offer you anything and you are one totally discouraged person. If you are indeed one of the wise people of the world and been around then you know there are many places like Wayne County in this USA and many more worst places in the USA. Your large hospitals are in the big cities and thats a common fact. The educational system in this county has produced many good people who have went on to great professions. Unemployment is actually down from last year and yes the drug problem is bad but unfortunately tell us where it is not.
You can knock Wayne County all you wish and it is fine that you don't live here but grow up and move on with another topic. Actually go on to work (if you do) in your big city with smog, crowded apartments, crime, and drugs. Enjoy your day.

Folks, it's a fact! There are more people working inWayne County NOW than has ever worked before. Just check the Kentucky Workforce Figures. Another thing, in order to work at a good job one must be able to pass the drug test - do you know what percentage can't pass it? Well, its astonishing.
What?
Wayne county's unemployment rate is astronomical. Over 30% higher than Russell, Pulaski, or Clinton. The actual employment numbers (people who are working) are down almost 20% from this time 8 years ago, and I PROMISE you that many of the ones still working are working reduced hours or at a lower paying job.

You people need to elect somebody worth a crap if you want to get out of the hole. Too many good old boy idiots in office right now due to their name and whatever they had to say to get elected. NOTHING but self interest. There is no reason for unemployment to be as high as it is right now other than nepotism, ignorance and corruption.

This Robert C guy is clueless to the real side of Monticello. I am here for reasons of my own concern. As soon as they are over, I plan to leave.
So far I've had my house broken into
My dog poisoned
My shed broken into
A lawn mower stolen
An attempt to get into my car
I hear gunshots almost nightly (in town)
All within the last years timeframe
So don't go spouting off about low crime rates around here

Well, lets see:
2007-2010 Crime Rates
Murders-0
Rapes-4
Robberies-17
Burglaries-269
Thefts-468
Auto Thefts-20
Arson-6
On the sum of the matter, the figures for Wayne Co. are well below the national averages for the comparable counties.Granted, the spike in 2008 was affected by the severe economic downturn.Manufacturing will never take root there due to the lack of major highways, railroad traffic,to be blunt, the educational system there is very poor.As long as the unemployment rate remains above the national average you will have more crime. That is the way of the world.

You need to probably change that to 0 SOLVED murders and 4 REPORTED rapes. And about the ARSON, well I could go ON AND ON about that but whats the use. It's really not any worse than any place else right now is though. We have to be REALISTIC even though we ARE frustrated. If the law could get a handle on the drug problem then almost HALF of our problems would go away. How can we do that though when the rest of the country is having just as bad of a time getting drugs off our streets? Nobody has the magic answer, do they.

Actually there was a murder. There was a woman killed in her home. They never found out who did it. There has been a high increase in people being killed in this town. Also the point you are trying to make is not valid. This town is small so one would need to compare the population to the crime rate. Larger population of course has a higher crime rate. There are more people. This small of a town has an extremely high crime rate considering the population. Also those statistics are way off. I guarantee if you go back through the local newspaper's records during those years you will find murders.

Actually there is an answer. Stop making drugs a big business for the judicial system. Take away their profit from it. Once they stop making money from drug addiction they will be forced to come up with an actual rehab plan that works. The current system in place has a very low success rate. Addicts from small towns should be forced to live elsewhere in a program that sets them up a job and a new life and have them under constant monitoring. They should remain under that system until they have at least 3-5 years clean under their belts. As long as the judicial system profits from the drug problem the revolving door on the jail will continue to allow inmates back on the streets without proper rehabilitation. I believe all of the grant money the police get to fight the issue should be taken away also. They abuse the grant system in order to get more funding. The grant money should go to a proper rehab program. The police should only operate off of the citizens tax dollars. However if grants were taken away they would use that as an excuse to raise taxes. It just goes to show how greedy the system is. The drug epidemic is big business not only for this county, but for this nation as a whole. Until that type of system is removed nothing will change.

We are rich in the sense that we are surrounded by so much beauty. If you live in the country and outlying areas around the county you are pretty much as free as you'll ever get.
I've traveled a lot as well and lived in other cities. It's all and and games for awhile. It's nice that no one knows anyone else, therefore, no one talks about anyone else. God forbid you turn down a wrong street though. Scary.
Move to the country and forget that bullshit riffraff up town!
