Why are you monticello people mad at Wayne county? Wayne county didnt run your school in the ground, your school board and admins did. why is wayne county even in this conversation? wayne is allowing your kids to go to their school and they didnt ask for this to happen. somethings wrong with how you people think.

Let's all remember that there is another great school system in town also. Immanuel Christian is great for those looking to keep their kids in a smaller school setting and has a great reputation for academics.

I was hoping for something more specific: is this happening in January or August?

Long time coming is all I can say about Monticello School. We're to small to support two public school districts. Has anyone thought of the money city tax payers will save not having to pay a city school tax? I hope the transition goes smoothly because in the end students, teachers, parents and taxpayers are going to reap rewards! Imho, this should have happened 20 years ago.

I hate to tell you but you'll be paying taxes just the same. You'll be taxed the same rate as the county residence since eveeryone will merge into one school, so will the taxes

Sorry I have no idea. I've heard both. It's my guess would be August. Looks to me like it would take time to get things ready.

Too bad most cannot afford that kind of cost. Private Christian schools get no state help.

Why don't we stop arguing about a school closing. They will come up with an idea to keep teaching students no matter where they're located or hat school they attend. I know definite that they're are 20 young children from Connecticut who would love to be in school today. Stop fighting over what we should do and be happy we have a safe school.

Why did the members of the Monticello school board sit back and make all these bad decisions and allow the school to go under. With all the money they spent on the soccer field and softball field was some of the last straws that broke the camels back. Shame on these people for doing this.

Yes, they obviously aren't good at what they do, but if it wasn't this it would have been something else. Regardless, it's been a long time coming and there has been no real reason for that district to exist for over 20 years now. There is no shame in getting rid of that money pit.

Why would there be a need to change the County school name, colors or logo. They are not the ones disolving. Keep it as it is. Who will pay off all MIS debts? Higher school taxes?

All the Monticello staff will have to reapply at Wayne co. Since its taking place in 2013, WC will not be responsible for their debt. Only requirement from WC is to accept any students that enroll there.

It is over, due to poor management and possible illegal moves, the Monticello Board relinquished control at the last board meeting to the state board (KDE). They soon combined the two schools. But this was not a barting situation. The Monticello Board has no control, it is the Wayne County Board that will have the say-so. There will be committees to help with the transitition. Possibly a few will lose their jobs, but some will, as always, retire, and this will make way for some to retain their jobs. That is if their areas of expertise will permit. This is something that may have been better financially if had taken place long ago. But finances and larger schools are not always better, neither are they always worse. I have confidence this will work fine, if the parents that feel negative about this situation will allow the students to be students.

You're a pathetic liar. I know multiple people that sold drugs during their time at Monticello High. Why are you making up this garbage? Let that failure of a school close the doors and fade away, and be thankful that fewer of your tax dollars will be wasted.

I get that WC will be taking over Monticello, but does that necessarily mean there has to be a changing of any building or any mascot? Think about it, other districts have multiple high schools, multiple middle schools and multiple elementary schools within them, with their own identity. Example: Warren County (being from that area) has at least 3 individual high schools, ran under the power of one district & board. Warren East, Warren Central, and Greenwood; all with their own identities, mascots, teams and traditions. They are just governed under the same roof.

Just throwing it out there, why couldn't Monticello maintain the Trojan identity and a separate campus just under the leadership of WC?

Not set on it, like I said, just thinking out loud.

Benefit? Next to none. Cost? Huge. Seems pretty clear.
