very hard to fake if you know someone with this it very hard to deal with.this person is fine one minute and not the next. never know what brings it on or what causes it.it is not something to make fun of; plenty of people have it some worse than others;

trying to fake being bipolar is like trying to fake being able to fly. bipolar disorder causes extreme mood swings that are uncontrollable and ruins lives. you say things to people that scar them for life then when you become somewhat normal you try to make it up to them but its too late the damage is done. there are weeks you don't want to get out of bed you don't want to live, and there are times when you try to end you life so you don,t have to put up with the pain anymore.

I have read your post on this thread and the other one on mental illness, you need help if you have all this going on in your daily life. I to have bipolar and I don't do any of the things you say you do. Yes their is highs and lows but most of it is manic way to high like crazy. Do you have a good doctor? Their aren't any around here lex. is the only place that can really help you and I think you have not had the right kind of treatment or you are playing off of your illess as a blame game. That is my personal opinion. I am not trying to hurt your feelings but I think you are not getting the right kind of treatment.

Does alcohol affect someone with bipolar??? I'm talking about liquor. Beer doesn't seem to affect the mood swings but one drink of alcohol sends this person overboard & they say & do some really hurtful things that they don't remember. I know the answer is "DO NOT DRINK" but the more I ask them not to, the more they do--what am I supposed to do ?? And yes there are kids involved--they are not abused but for them to see this person in this shape to me is just as hurtful. Maybe the person I'm talking about is just doing it to spite me but they are hurting these children's minds worse than they are mine because I finally said you can't hurt me anymore. It's not physical--it's mental--which in my eyes is far more worse anyday---you can get over a broken bone but your heart & mind will always hurt.

I have a family member with Bipolar and most of the time they are fine but when they go into a Manic state there is a total difference in the way they act. One minute they want to go here then 5 secounds later they change their mind and want to do something totally different. They get big wild Ideas about things they are going to do and it is things that is totally out of their reach as far as actuality. Then there is times when they are really really depressed to the point they will not even get off of the couch. I agree it is not something that you can fake. It is not something to make fun of either it is a really serious illness.. This person can be very hurtful in the things they say too, I have almost had to fight this person while in the manic state and they have strengh that is almost like super human I don't know where it comes from b/c normally there not that way..

not all bipolars have the same symptoms and yes i have an excellent doctor who i see every month. i am a rapid cycler, i also have post traumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder, and ocd, i dont play off my illnesses. i live with them, one day at a time. i cherish every good day i have. don't judge me,i couldn't and wouldn't fake this hell that i am going through. i would trade places with any body that thinks mental illness is overrated any day .

by the way my doctor worked on the war ships during the vietnam war. i know that you probably didn't mean any harm with your comments [honey] and a lot of it was my fault because i did not mention my other illnesses, and most people do treat mental illnesses with illegal drugs and alcholol. anything to numb your feelings.

Do people with bipolar feel remorse when they have hurt others in their manic phases?
bi-polar

London, KY

#18 Nov 23, 2009
Yes, absolutely we feel remorse for what we said or done to hurt others. But you have to keep in mind that our brain is completely out of whack. Have you ever seen someone with cancer and it reaches their brain, do you notice how differently they act as it reaches each part of their brain? You feel nothing but sympathy for them. And justly so.

But please keep in mind, bi-polar is an illness that works on our brain and it makes our way of acting out of control sometimes. When the depression hits, I cann't function. When I am on a high, I have endless energy, my mind works so fast that it wears my body out. It is beyond my control. I take a series of meds. and I do everything just as I should but it just takes the edge off. Nothing completely take it away.

As a normal person with a bi-polar person, you can walk away anytime, but this hell is our life. It will be with us for the rest of our life and it only worsens as you get older.
