I was told by the principle and superintendent of Monticello Schools that a teacher has a right to grab a students arm. Is this crazy or what. Has any other student had problems with teachers that keep touching them , grabbing or pulling on them please let me know. If it happens again to my daughter, 2 times already by same teacher. I will pursue legal action. The teacher that done this 8th grade also her last name is very popular around here. As in the family name means money. I won't say names but I hope people know who i am talking about.

There's alot of names around here that mean money. I think if the schools and parents still had the right to spank kids the world wouldn't be as bad off is it is and the kids would be alot more respectable to the parents and not as wild.

I agree...teachers need the right to spank a child and discipline them. and parents need to support the school to discipline the child because a lot of parents won't do it.

I would not blame you. I think I would check with Department of Education in Frankfort. That is close to child abuse. If they seen you grab her you would probably be arrested.

I know a teacher that works for the Wayne County School system that grabbed a child by the arm so hard that his feet came off the ground.I went and talk with JD and he said that he would look into it and as far as I know nothing was done.No it wasn't Amy Kidd it was another teacher from Walker. The reason I know this is because I was there and saw it with my own eyes.If I ever saw a teacher do my child the way she done this child, all hell would break loose.Children go to school to learn not to be abused by someone they should look up too. They need cameras in every class room at school so the teachers can be watch.I have taught my children that if anyone ever hurt them that they should affend themself. If they don't stand up for themselves no one will.

I disagree,I don't even spank my kids so I be damn if someone else will.Nowdays if a parent spanks a child they would be in court for abuse. If a parent is not allow to spank a child then why should a teacher be allowed to spank them.I can't believe anyone would allow a teacher to spank a child. That is totally not right.

I think kids need to quit being sissys. They do whatever they want in school because if they do something wrong there parents will come save them. Each generation is getting weaker and it is because of parents.

In my classroom, I would never, ever have hurt a child. However, I know of children who are so unruly (mostly because of the way they are allowed to act at home) that teachers can't do anything with. Yes, they are there to learn. But, so is everyone else, and there is a fine line between respecting their rights and defending those of others. I guess I would have to know the situation: was the child throwing a tantrum, were they hitting, etc.? If so, a teacher taking their arm might have been to get their attention. If there's no mark, then there was probably no wrong doing. Personally, I think it's best not to touch them, but again, I don't know the situation.

Parents need to make sure they get the full story in these situations. I'll guarantee you most kids won't tell anything that makes them look bad.

You know, most teachers would never spank. But, if they had that to hold over the kid's head, you would see most behavior improve. The threat kept me inline!

teachers don't grab children for no reason. the child was doing something that he was asked to stop. i am sure the child was asked more than once before the teach grabbed then. i remember the kids in school that did not get spanked at home it was very easy to tell from the way the treated the teachers. parent forget what teacher give up to teach their children. they are under paid. they pay for four years of college just so the can teach someone else child. parents today have forgotten to teach their children RESPECT. I showed my teachers and parents respect because I was scared not to. I never once had to be spanked at school. I was taught that my teacher did not have to be their to up me and that the reason they were their was not for the little bit of money they get each month. I now parents that tell their children to go to school and misbehave so that they can draw checks on them. Parents are so lazy now day they simply do not act like parents. the teach that grabbed the child is not the one that should be in trouble it is the child that had to be grabbed that should be getting he butt kicked. i think that i would rather have my child spanked in school than to have a school system turn their backs on a school and sent jail for misbehaving in school. and that is what has to a lot of kids in larger cities.

interesting topic....but i wonder why the person that started this won't name the teacher....

seems to me that if the parent really cared then he/she would want others to know who it was and to request a different teacher for the child. If it is true then it is not slander..so why not give a name???

and personally...if my child is acting disrespectfully at school then I would ask that the teacher to use a manner of discipline to make my child understand what the guidelines are, even if that means corporal punishment....if they don't want to discipline my child, then i will come to the school and do it myself.

Thats what I was talking about. It should be reported to Ky Dept of Education. I don't believe in spanking either.

Don't believe in spanking? No wonder we have a county full of people who think the world owes them EVERYTHING. Kids NEED to learn discipline & if they don't, the world/community can certainly see it!

My thoughts exactly. Proverbs 13:24 “Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.”

"Spare the rod, spoil the child."
And this is directed at parents of school age kids. I'm not that old,but when I was in school they did paddle students. And you can be sure that my parents generation would spank the kids when they got home too. Without even knowing why the teachers had done it because kids should respect their elders. And adults trusted other adults to do the right thing.
There's a big difference between giving a kid a swat and abusing them.
Has not spanking kids made hem any better?

To I disagree, if your son is a preacher it is clear that you do not attend services. You should not take the Lord's name in vain by using damn. If your children are grown, then what is it to you anyway? If more parents would do their jobs at home, discipline wouldn't have to be such an issue at school!

I totally agree. Spanking and abusing are completely different.

If more parents respected teachers, the teachers would be able to teach.
