I've heard that Dr. Wheat is a good pain management doctor. However, it depends on what you're looking for. If you're just looking for a doctor that will write you scripts for whatever it is you want and send you on your way, I don't think he's the right one for you. Most LEGITIMATE pain management doctors also drug test for other substances of abuse and if you test positive, you're out of the program. But if you're truly looking for legitimate pain management, I would check Dr. Wheat's group out. I've heard good things about his practice. Chronic pain is a terrible thing to have to live with and anyone who does has my deepest sympathy.

I first visited the Dr. Stephen Wheat (the physiatrist)in the fall of 2011, and was hopeful since when I explained my dire financial crisis personally to him, he assured me he would work with me at 'my pace'. Although I thought it was outrageous when learning I was charged nearly a GRAND for an exam that took only a few SECONDS--one for my severe CTS that has already been thoroughly documented, I intended to return as soon as I could afford some treatment. However, when I didn't come in THE VERY NEXT DAY, I was ostricized, and sent a letter saying that because of my NON-COMPLIANCE, he was not willing to have me as his patient. I don't know if the letter truly came from HIM OR if his secretarial staff is screwy, but it wounded me deeply on top of all my physical pain he plainly understood from his own examination.

I do hope people realize there are TWO Dr. Wheats in town. The psychiatrist and the pain management doctor.
