So very sorry for your loss, Ms Funston. I wish there was something of comfort to give you, but, we both know that there is little that will fill that void.
My prayers will include you and the rest of his family.

"He couldn't afford a ring at the time, so he went to a gumball machine and got her a ring out of that,"

Aww that's cute. What was he, six?

Yes, it's a tragedy, but who the hell swims in the Fox? Use your heads, kids.

Robbie was in my 5th grade class. He was always smiling and was one of THE sweetest kids I have ever taught. His disappearance has left me thinking so much about him! I read a book that year aloud in class. Robbie was always very "into" listening as I read. Ironically, this book, On My Honor, was about 2 boys swimming in an IL river. One boy never returned to shore. Robbie was convinced this story would end just as I hoped for him, that the young boy would eventually be found alive and well. Once I close this book upon finishing the last chapter, Robbie just stared with his mouth open at me. I will always remember his innocence in his response, "So he really IS dead?" I am so saddened that these 2 stories ended in much the same way.

Robbie was a great kid. I was fortunate enough to have seen him a few months ago at a sporting event and he greeted me with a hug and a smile. I will NEVER forget this special young man!

This is a huge tragedy, and my heart goes out to his family and friends. Like one of the other responders, I have to say this. With all the rain, flooding, and all the news reports about how strong currents are and that they had boating-bans, people need to be more responsible. This could have ended with 3 boys deaths. Teens really need to start using their brains more.

You obviously don't have children and don't feel the pain. I have a 17 year old boy and my heart bleeds for these parents. These boys were out having fun. Legal fun. It wasnt 3a.m. They weren't drunk or high. Boys are boys. And its such a shame it has to end up so tragic. God bless him.

I heard His mother Sandy, left him and his father when he was only 3 years old. She was gone for a while She lost custody of him after the divorce, so Funston is not her last name. I'm wondering if Rob would agree with what she had said?

You people are heartless. Do not respond to these people anymore. Please, please, just write about what happiness he brought to your lives! My son went to school with Robbie and all his stories about Robbie are about his great sense of humor and how he loved to make everyone laugh!!

all that matters is that he wanted to make people happy around him, Let's stay with that! In honor of Robbie, lets do that, only good thoughts!!!
