I think this is ridiculous, murderers and rapists don't get sentenced 20 years. She didn't hurt the little boy, did she do wrong, yes but come on, this is a complete injustice for her and her children.

To many people are using their kids as a means to cheat the system at the expense of honest caring people and she knowingly stole from those people without any remorse so let this be an exaple to her and any others and she has some time to think about what she did.

I am the father of the said child. I was at court today in total support of Stephanie. A great injustice was committed by the justice system in elmore county. Harsh does not fit near the actual judgement.

People please tell me this how the fuck we can judge any body everybody have done dirt. God put us on this earth to love one another no to judge or put down . The world haves no love and understanding anymore . The world has become more of if u got money then u get what u want. It a damn shame people with money sale their sold for money and power. Instead of putting people down and judging them help them loan them and hand, feed them and most of all (PRAY for them)

She scanned many people and businesses and if not caught would have continued she is getting what she deserves if the punishment is too harsh maybe she should have thought about that before she did what she did.

then you know what kind of person she really is and you also know she is getting what she the deserves. you can call it in justice all you want but the legal system worked and a criminal was put to justice end of story

Wow I know this is old but seriously; wow. 20 years for $1400 when people routinely hustle millions in white collar crimes and garner significantly lighter sentences, glad I don't live in Alabama

Your obviously not very educated. Or very couth. That's her father your talking to genius. And I'm guessing you don't personally know her or the circumstances; you just read or heard about it like everyone else. So YOU DON'T KNOW what she "deserved". If you think someone who gives birth at 14 years old and then steals to provide for them deserves 20 years in prison over a matter of $1400 then I pity you but I'm glad your just some internet moron. Thank God not everyone thinks like you do; sadly at least one judge does. I understand the frustration with what the world has become and what goes on; but you can't take it all out on one poor single mom who stole to take her kid to Disneyworld. People routinely steal millions from retirement funds and hedge funds, pyramid schemes and let's face it; even armed robberies. But most of them don't get sentences like this!! Alabama is insane if this is how "Justice" works there. I could show you about a thousand similar cases where the penalty was nowhere near this severe. Poor woman and poor kid. I don't see how this sentence helps the community, the woman or her child. Shame on Alabama.

I know this is old but I just came across it. I'm so very sorry for you and your family. Hopefully this injustice of a sentence was appealed and adjusted accordingly. Yes too many people steal; but I think too many judges use ridiculous sentences to grab headlines as well. I don't think it's possible that she had an unbiased trial and conviction with a sentence like that. My older brother was sentenced to 25 years to life for shoplifting a pair of shorts from a local mall. It took us almost 17 years to get the judgement reversed and him finally home. It was unreal. I pray your ordeal doesn't have to go as long. Good luck sir and again I'm so sorry.
