Goodyear should just fess up. It's reminiscent of the Ford/Firestone days (Firestone took a hit for Ford's stupidity - everyone knows soft tires running at high temps will fail!). Goodyear tires suck anyway, no matter what vehicle they are on!!!

I used to work at Goodyear in the final finish department (called disneyland because of the overhead conveyer belts everywhere) and we had to plead constantly with management not to let defective tires out the door. Goodyear sucks.

I hope this cost Goodyear billions in lawsuit settlements. One has to wonder how many people died or were injured because these tires were defective? We probably will never know.

I can't believe it once again I am leaning towards OMG. However, lawsuits are seemingly in order, but billions. Wow,that is a bit much unless there are that many incidients that are related to the tire failure. I think the cover up attempt should be felt all through out the top executives. All should be removed for cause an no structured settlement for their release. Just turn 'em out like they would do to any of us.

Funny, I haven't heard of any major recall on those tires as yet.

San Antone Bill - No, you won't hear of a 'major recall' on those tires because the tires are not defective.

The problem appears to be that the manufacturers of those Greyhound Bus-sized RVs equipped their vehicles with tires made for much lighter vehicles!

GY should be suing the motorcoach manufacturers for intentionally underestimating the axle weight of their product and chosing OEM tires that were inadequate for the real load and therefore not fit for the intended purpose. But, see, lighter-duty tires are much cheaper tires.

And there only seems to be about a couple of dozen lawsuits out there anyway, so its not like a passenger car tire problem.

This is all true and happened at 7:30 a.m. December 4th 2008. I had a 1998 ford explorer that my 17 year old son drove to and from school everyday. This vehicle was in excellent condition and had nearly new Goodyear Eagle GT II tires.
December 4th 2008 he was on his way to school, it was very cold that morning but the roads were dry there was no ice and no water. he had made it about a mile from home when for legal reasons (in my opinion) the drivers rear tire had a sidewall separation I have pictures to show this. causing (in my opinion) rapind deflation and loss of control of the explorer. The vehicle swerved violently to the left, went off the road and began to flip.
It left the road at approx 50 miles an hour
A driver behind him confirmed he was driving in a safe manner. The vehicle flip about 3 times ejecting my son, thankfully the driver behind him stopped and called 911 and then called me, I arrived on the scene about 6 minutes after the accident. They life flighted him to St marys hospital in evansville. They determined he had broken his spine at the top just below the neck and lower middle back. He had serious head injuries, facial cuts, severe bruising all over his body and partial vision loss in one eye. I contacted goodyear about this matter and (in my opinion) I am getting nowhere fast. They (in my opinion) seem to be very interested in getting the tire from me but unwilling to coperate in any other way. so far I have over $50,000.00 in medical bills and a totaled truck.
And a very lucky son who will survive and walk in a situation where many are not so fortuate. My purpose in writing this is simple. When you buy tires regardless of brand you at the very least expect them to be safe. this (in my opinion) is not the case.(in my opinion) goodyear makes a poor product with flaws that are common and frequent.(in my opinion) they do not take responsability for this incompetence. I feel at the least they should pick up the expenses it has cost me. nothing more, doesn't that sound fair.(in my opinion) not likely gonna happen. I highly recomend that if you have these brand of tires you change them and do not buy them. To lose your or a loved ones life or ability to walk due to a pathetic tire company producing inferior tires is unacceptable but it is up to you to take action. I am asking for those of you who read this to please pass it along at every chance you have so that my story may help someone to avoid this. so please repost and ask everyone else to do the same. also add your name to the bottom so that it can be seen how many people I have reached. Please be safe and have a wonderful 2009.

Sorry to hear about this accident and I pray that you son will have a speedy and complete recovery. While reading this story I immediately seen a problem being the GT II on a SUV. The Wrangler or Fortera would have been the tire designed for that vehicle. Please ask your salesman which tire is right for your vehicle.

Do you ever see Dunlop commercials? What about when you go to a Goodyear store? Did they ever try to sell you Dunlops? It never happens! And there are many other Wranglers out there such as GSA, RTS, and many others. I'm not biased about this since at my plant we make Remington, Dunlop, and Goodyears. I'm just talking about my personal experiance. And I'm not sure if the Wranglers outsell the Rovers as replacement tires but I will tell you that the Dunlop Rover RVXT is one of the best tires I have ever owned. I will be buying them again! Also a Dunlop tire is a Goodyear product!

When I worked there they admitted the Firestone off road tires tested very good and better than Goodyears. Several older workers stated that the Forteras were on the market before being tested safe.
They did not want employment of personell who tested tires acurately but those who swayed things Goodyears way.
Good news is I bought a top luxury car for peanuts due to a shimmy at highway speeds. Brought the car in and it had 2 defective Goodyear Eagles. Belts had let go in less than 3K miles and the previous owner thought the car was to blame and not her new GY tires.
Company harbors low quality and management is no quality, avoid Kelly, Dunlop and Douglas tires all from Goodyear.

I hate to say this to you. But Fortera are not that great of tire. The wranglers are not great either. I work with Goodyear tires. I have maybe seen one or two Goodyear that have been ok. Just about every tire that we balance looks to be out of round. I would recommend BF Goodrich before a Goodyear. It is sad when most Nascar drivers hate them.

I know first hand about goodyear and how the respond to their tires failing, on december 4th 2008 my son was on his way to school at 7:29 a.m. when the left rear tire a goodyear GT II sidewall separated from the rest of the tire, these tires were not that old. the SUV jerked violently to the left causing the suv to leave the road flipping 4 times and ejecting my son through the drivers door window, he suffered a spine broken in two places, vision loss, serious head injuries, etc. I lost a good vehicle and have more medical bills than I can ever pay for. however that is not the end. I contacted goodyear and the sent someone from crawford & company to evaluate the situation. at first the guy they send didnt see what the problem was? seriously. He told me this happens all the time and that I shouldnt be upset over it that I wasnt even the only one in my area at that time. Heres a tip goodyear find better adjusters. after much time they determined that goodyear was not to blame for the accident and that my son was. they determined that my son hit a road hazard the tire went flat he continued to drive at high speeds until the tire came off the rim then swerved off the road causing the SUV to roll over which was alsonot their fault because if I had not had an suv it likely wouldnt have rolled over. I went toseveral attorneys none wanted to go up against goodyear because of the cost involved versus the recovery. so goodyear gets away clean again. It isn't right it is dirty it is wrong and there is nothing I can do about it.

it had 20" wheels and they were recomended by the sales person live and learn, thanks for the well wishes my son is as good as he will ever be, he has chronic pain, and very little vision but I guess thats better that what could have been but wanna hear the real kicker? all I asked of goodyear was to pay the medical bills, not to worry about compensation or the SUV

Ford Explorers are rolling death traps no matter what tire is on it.also eagle Gt 2 are discontinued car tires.Goodyear hasn't made them in years so that takes that "newish tires"out of the whole story.and they were made for cars not SUV's.

Stay far away from Goodyear in South Plainfield, NJ. I am a first time customer and The Store Manager Phil DeGennaro treated me like a bum on the street.

I'm glad I called customer service, stated my complaint and they will do whatever it is they have to do so hopefully this will not happen again.
