My pet, Sassy, had been sick since we purchased her from a rapidly expanding pet shop-- Just Paws Pets (located in Arcadia,CA). Before the purchase, Just Paws Pets guaranteed that the store will cover all medical expense. However, after the purchase, they have been avoiding most of the reimbursements by taking our receipts and denying our claims. My innocent Sassy passed away on 12/09, 3 days before her 1-year old birthday, without warning. Just Paws Pets' associated veterinarian (Monrovia Animal Medical Center, located in Monrovia,CA) refused to perform a detailed examination for the cause of her death while two other veterinarians said the necropsy could be performed in Sassy's case. Meanwhile, Monrovia Animal Medical Center purposely handled the carcass wrongfully to prevent any further procedures to be done by other veterinarian either to cover their own limited professionalism or to protect the interest of Just Paws Pets. W ithout the documentation from the associated veterinary, Just Paws Pets limited their 1-year warranty of full credit and offered me a 25% discount for a new puppy. All I want to find out is what was the cause of her death. Neither full credit nor discount is my concern.

I feel that this unethical and ridicules business practice of how Just Paws Pets and Monrovia Animal Medical Center treated Sassy or other pets are unforgivable. Yet the steps I can take are limited. But Sassy and I would like to share this with all pet's lovers, and we wish you can share this with your friends.

As an employee I am very sorry to hear your situation. This in unlike something of our company to do. Unfortunately I am not from the Arcadia store and have no authority over there. I suggest you contact the owner again, as well as I will notify him. When your purchased Sassy you signed some papers. One of them was the California Law paper. The state of California gives you three options if something such as your situation were to happen. Review the paper and contact all parties necesary. I will be sure the owner comes in contact with you shortly.

Don't support this shop. Find out the reality behind it. The shop probably has it's puppies supplied to it by puppy mills, which are at the center of endless animal cruelty and neglect cases.

Unfortunately, the people that give these pet shops dogs are money hungry, careless people. No responsible breeder would sell to a pet shop. Instead, people who care only about continuing their income sell their puppies to shops. The female dogs are bread until they are too old- or they are put to sleep when they cannot bear young anymore. All of the dogs live in tiny tiny places, because the happiness of the dogs is not worthwhile to the "breeders".

Please check out the links below. Please be a responsible individual. If you or your child falls in love with a puppy at a shop, check the papers, the pound, or a rescue group for a similar puppy. Or check a breeder. You can always find the exact same breed for a less expensive price if you look at real breeders.

Puppy mills dont care about the health or well-being of their dogs. The puppies that are supplied to pet shops are no exception. It is extremely common for puppies from pet shops to have illnesses, diseases, or genetic diseases that can be found anywhere from one week to 5 years after they are purchased.

Please- do your part and be responsible. Animals have hearts and souls, also.

Thanks- please read below.

The person above me. " No name" I'm quite certain is an employee being ordered to write a "wonderful FAKE review." This shop is the most unprofessional, inhumane, unethical store. They buy their dogs from illegal puppy mills. Most of their dogs suffer from Hip Dysplesia or retardation. READ THEIR WARRANTY CAREFULLY BECAUSE IT'S A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!I bought a dog from this place with hip dysplesia and they REFUSED to compensate me. MY DOG IS CURRENTLY A CRIPPLE. STAY AWAY FROM THIS INHUMANE STORE. IF YOU BUY A DOG FROM THIS STORE YOU ARE SUPPORTING ANIMAL CRUELTY. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PETSTORE. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PETSTORE.

I completely agree with you. This petstore should CLOSE down. Don't buy anything from this petstore.

How much were you paid?(to the employees for justpaws) to write a fake nice review?$3 dollars? 4 dollars? 5 dollars? With every cent you are being paid a dog is being ABUSED and Il-treated. Soften your hearts, open your eyes you unprofessional " programmed robots."

I'm glad that this dicussion is alive. This petstore is "hell on earth." It may smell good, it may be clean, you may be allowed to play with the dogs for HOURS. Clever! brilliant marketing trick! brilliant scam! well-written warranty targeted mostly to housewives being hurried by their children to sign the warranty! brilliant! this shop needs 100 human claps! brilliant marketing scam. i'm impressed really. Impressed that they can cover up hell and transform it into heaven. Impressed that under-aged sweatsshops can brought up so much attention. yet this shop can cover it up nicely..and smoothly. extremely impressed. Let's give this shop employees and owners a round of applause. brilliant scam!

These dogs are NOT toys. Toys that you can break a little, throw a little then say " OHHH it's ok we got it for 50 dollars. We can throw it. Break it's leg a little or crack it's skull. a housewive and a little girl will still buy this toy due to his/her cutenes. and he/she will worth 4000 dollars instead!"

My niece is a victim of this scam. Her dog, a bulldog, which she bought 4 days ago is sufferinig from hip dysplesia as well. And they refused to pay for the 30 dollars medical bill.

Also! people! they have " recommended vets." very intelligent people aren't they? vets that are being bribed by them to write false reports so that you wont be able to claim the money. vets that probably took 40 days to memorise the warranty by heart so that one can't claim his/her refund or medical bills.

personally employees don't get paid for any of this, ever realize that the people that work there care and love puppies? why else would someone be willing to be waiting for one of the dogs poop to clean it up? think about what your writing because not only are you trying to convince people that you actually have had a huge problem with a dog you bought, i bet you that you didn't even buy one, so why don't you all stop offending not only the company but the employees of it as well. No one goes into your work and criticize your job or intentions!

Don't ever puchase a pet from this store. I bought my chihuahua there a year ago and it came with many problems. The vet that was recommended to me in Monrovia was money-hording. They were nice enough to give my chihuahua medication for worms because it was a free visit from the shop, but I also took my other dog as well in which they charged a huge some of rudundant charges. The next time around, the shop did not want to pay for the worms that were still in my chihuahua. And then I found out that this shop was owned by my fellow classmate's boyfriend who is Chinese. I am chinese. and chinese are unethnical. These dogs most likely are mistreated and came from a puppy mill. Buy your pups from a breeder. Breeders will know personally about each puppy they sell and will show you the parents as well as give you a history of diseases and sicknesses in their line.

I am a veterinary nurse in the UK, luckily for us selling puppies in a pet shop is something I havent seen for years. People in the UK seem to have grown a conscience about it i think, i believe that its time the USA did too.
If you are serious about buying a puppy you should want to see its parents, know its history, see its papers if its pedigree, and KNOW whether 1) it has been hipscored, otherwise how could the breeders possibly know if the pups are likely to have hip dysplasia 2) eye scored, 3) Vaccinated (this is very important for the bitch too) 4) Wormed regularly the list goes on.....
Dont get me wrong there are STILL far too many puppies being born in 'puppy farms' in the UK where it is all about the money, and these dogs all go to people who havent done their homework about the breed they are buying, the excercise and attention they need and have absolutely no idea that you have to spend money regularly to maintain that animals health and happiness!!
ANYONE WHO BUYS AN ANIMAL HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO IT FOR ITS ENTIRE LIFE - WHEREVER IT COMES FROM AND HOWEVER MUCH IT COSTS

Also....afterall hmmm why did the innocent Germans followed Hitler's ruling though they know it was awhole load of crap?hmmmm

The dog I bought from there died 32 days after I got it. They refused to give me a refund or a replacement or even to pay the vet burial fee. Enough said?

I bought a yellow lab from this store to be friends with my other lab. As soon as I got my puppy home he was having trouble breathing and was really sick he threw up on me all night for a week which cost me my job that was paying for the $1500 to free this dog from hell in pet store cage / puppy mill- where he came from then broke his elbow in 2 places doing a little trot a few feet in front of me. That cost about $4500 in medical bills and time and round the clock medical carefor 2 months. Since the cast was taken off he has limped not on the broken leg but the back leg. And he is crazy always attacking me and making my arms black and blue and does this to his Lab Friend. This has been very stressful and I will never purchase another animal from this place which I now know my dog came from a sick money starved person and puppy mill. I would not wish this experience on my worst enemy.... I do love my Lab he is precious but if it were not for outside help I would be homeless due to this dogs illnesses immediately after getting him.
However, the employees were nice because they saw dollar signs. Maybe they work on commission? But the evil are the owners and the puppy mills not the innocent people who work there who are just like us animal lovers and probably do not believe or know that they are form puppy mills.
A truly sad story. I almost vomit when I walk by that store knowing that those dogs have suffered dearly.

I hope all pet shops are illegal soon

I have a friend who happens to work at the Arcadia location and that friend has told me so many times "Never buy a dog from here because almost always they come in sick" I really believe that they get their puppies from puppy mills. I was about to get this really cute spaniel from there even though she said not to. The day I decided I was going to get it my friend told me "seriously i wouldnt get that dog she looks healthy and everything but all the other puppies she came in with are sick." so i decided not to. i'm supper glad i didnt because she told me that they had to send the dog back to where ever they got it from because it was so sick.
may i suggest going here:
