No, the gas does not cause any more deposits than usual. My car was designed for 98 octane fuel, which is no longer available. If I use 91 octane fuel, the knock sensor senses any slight ping, and retards the ignition This reduces performance, but it protects the engine from destructive knock. Some gas stations sell road legal 95 octane gas. With this the car runs with the ignition advanced, and thus combustion is more complete, increasing performance ( if you tune your cars you know ignition advance is free horsepower, unless you detonate ) and reducing emissions. Running the car at higher rpm cures any carbon deposits. Use a quality oil and don't baby the engine. Engines like revs.
All that Lucas additive does is to raise the weight on grade, from 30 to 40 or 40 to 50, etc.. Run one weight grade heavier oil and you accomplish the same thing. Better yet, find a group five synthetic multi-grade engine oil that meets the ACEA A3 or B3 specification ( forget the API grades, they're garbage ) and toss all the additives. Suggestions are Mobil-1 15W-50 ( what I use ) or Amsoil 20W-50, and I suggetst these for use in old Detroit iron. The latest API oil specs removed too much zinc and phosphorus to be safe in old performance engines. All the European manufacturers ditched US spec oils for this reason and adopted the stricter ACEA standards. Additives are a waste of money, no one who knows anything about engine oil uses them.
PS, the absolute only non synthetic oil I would use in anything is Brad Penn. This is the original Kendall GT-1. Conoco-Phillips bought the Kendall name, but the oil is no longer from the old Kendall refinery. Amereican Refining bought the old Bradford Pennsylvania plant from Conoco-Phillips and makes the original Kendall blend under their name. I prefer not to use oils I have to mail order. Mobil-1 is everywhere, and is a great oil.

Calif. has been going it alone on even smog check were only 34 counties out of 52 require biennial smog checks while 6 do only some Zip codes. That leaves 12 who do nothing. Even Incline Village, Lake Tahoe, Nev. Has no smog check. Nevada has only 2 Counties that require smog checks Clark Co.(Las Vegas) and Washoe Co (Reno) the rest do nothing, Thank You Harry Reid, D-Nev. for helping Calif. smog problems. How they want a Dino. put in every shop costing Thousands of dollors more to do the tests. Geez... where do we get these politicians?

No. The new test does away with the dyno for 1996 and later cars. The test uses a hand held device that plugs into the OBD II data port. Dyno's have been in the test stations since the 1990's, this won't add any more.
Bureaucratic Mess

Would you propose something as absurd as re-opening the old government smog check stations where union bureaucrats would spend a few choice hours playing grab ass while cars were parked 20-deep, belching exhaust, for their turn to be treated like trash by the grease-monkey bureaucrats?

Corruption happens as often in government as it does in the private sector. Remember the local news investigations into DMV clerks selling drivers license exam answers, IDs and registrations? If this silly government mandate were overturned, we'd all save a lot of money and not have to worry about cheaters.

First, clean up the smog given out by the Democrat controlled school buses.

Then we'll talk.

Republicans are no better.

Brainless nonsense. The LA basin has the worst air quality in the nation.
And Your ridiculous laws extend to the rest of California.
Come up to Grass valley/Nevada city, and try to tell me we have any pollution. and don't give me the "think towards the future" nonsense, these towns are barely holding population. this is the truth for the vast majority of california, but we end up having to spend just as much because of SoCal's utter Stupidity.

NO on AB 2289 (Eng) unless amended

If an elected official would request a copy of the Sierra Research SR 2007-04-01 report and all communication about the report from CCEEB, CED, CARB, DCA/BAR, IMRC, Parsons, SGS Testcom & Sierra Research it might help improve performance of Smog Check….

A random ‘Smog Check’ inspection & repair 'secret shopper' audit, ethanol cap and elimination of dual fuel CAFE credit can cut California car impact over 50% in 2010.(Prevent Over 2000 tons per day of sulfur, PM, HC, O3, NOx, CO & CO2.) Improved performance of AB32 at reduced cost.(support H.R. 1207)
