Ask the Auto Doctor

Full story: Independent Record

Dear Doctor: I own a 2003 Lincoln LS with only 4,700 miles. The "service parking brake" message appears and the electronic park brake light stays on.

I am at my wits end. I am making a car payment on a car I have driven probably 6 months out of the last 2 years. 2003 Lincoln LS V-8 was randomly dying while driving; then got to a point where it would not start at all. I took to 2 dealers here in Indy who saw nothing wrong with it; 1 mechanic who suggested Stan's Auto Electric in Indy. Towed the car to Stans. Stans kept the car for a month before getting any reads from the computer. Finally sent the computer to be re-programmed, replaced tac sensor, and the battery. Took the car home and approximately 3 weeks later, having the same problems. Also have replaced the fuel pump and relays....all to the tune of about $2500.00 all in. Aside from torching the car, any suggestions?!??!?!

2001 Blazer 4x4 w/85,000 is “missing” while driving…$2000 later:
1) New head gasket
2) Complete distributor and cap
3) Fuel injection completely cleaned
4) Did not replace ignition cables or plugs (Damn # 3!)
5) Gets about the same MPG, which is crap, but not part of the problem.
Runs great…except, long story short,…while driving at freeway speeds there is “miss” that I can only explain as it feels like that little “lag” when the AC compressor engages. AC not on when it happens. Don’t notice it while Accel/Decel. At idle, in gear or not, it may occasionally produce a “miss” that I can feel and the tach will dip.
That’s my story
Thanks

I have a 2000 S-10 Blazer. The acceleration is very sluggish. Gear shifts are spotty; for example, while traveling at road speeds, when it attempts to shift to passing gear, the RPMs will increase accordingly, but the truck will begin to coast. I will actually loose speed! Could this be the torque converter or is this something else?

I just got a 03 chevy impala from an as is auto auction the car had some minor front end damage from a wreck. I wasn't able to test drive it so I didn't know of this issue. So it will not shift or doesn't seem to shift and the speedo doesn't work. If im at a complete stop I can speed up but in order to get up to drive speed I had to push the pedal down and it was reved the whole time I know my way around a car for the most part but need some suggestions on what this could be my first thought is the spped sensor because the replace the passenger side front fender so maybe its as simple as a plug or the whole senseor. so can you give me suggestions so im not just wasting money on parts thanks
