The warming trend we're currently experiencing dates back 40,000 years despite the fact Paleolithic man drove very few SUVs and only flew via pterodactyl.
That doesn't stop people from pointing to an unusually warm day as 'proof' of anthropomorphic global warming.
It's only fair to tolerate a jibe or two the other way when the weather becomes nippy.
Maybe your "people" do, but it has nothing to do with science. The prediction, coming true, is an increase of extreme weather events. Also, warming will effect different latitudes differently, as you well know being an Aussie. Hows the climate in Australia these days? Warm enough for you?

That climate changes is undeniable. That the climate has been trending warmer since the peak of the Quaternary Glaciation is a matter of geologic fact.
That warming is accelerating now more than any other time before can be argued. That human produced atmospheric carbon is the sole, or even leading, cause of said current acceleration is yet to be proved.
At this point the science of the subject has been so politicized be persons on either side trying to exploit the data for their own ends I doubt we will ever know for sure.
That not panicking into making disastrous economic decisions based on inaccurate or falsified data is the right thing to do? Of that I'm certain.
oops - I posted before I read the whole string

good boy, good boy...

except that I dont see the science as particularly politicized from the side of scientists. The rightwing would like to frame it that way, but I dont see it. The science has been pretty darn consistent. I remember before the issue was politicized by anyone (only back in the early 90s), and the scientific predictions or findings have not changed substantially since then. Only the rhetoric.

You didnt piss me off in the least. I just hope my deer are smart enough to find your property. Good riddance and enjoy!.

BTW the wildlife people claim that ultimate deer stocking density for your and my part for the state should be about 6 per sq mile, I think. At the highest, a few years ago, the density was around 50 per sq mile. Now its down a few less.

I'm gratified to know this.
In other words, at the moment we may be
going down the up escalator.
But it has nothing to do with our overall direction.
You are now dismissed.
Winter Does Not Disprove Global Warming

http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_scie...

1. Statements about climate trends must be based on, er, trends. Not individual events or occurrences. Weather is not climate, and anecdotes are not statistics.

2. Global warming is actually expected to increase “heavy precipitation in winter storms,” and for the Northern Hemisphere, there is evidence that these storms are already more frequent and intense, according to the draft U.S. National Climate Assessment.

3. Antarctica is a very cold place. But global warming is affecting it as predicted: Antarctica is losing ice overall, according to the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. However, sea ice is a different matter than land-based or glacial ice. Antarctic sea ice is increasing, and moreover, the reason for this may be climate change!(For more, read here.)

Finally, just one last thing: When it’s winter on Earth, it’s also summer on Earth ... somewhere else. Thus, allow us to counter anecdotal evidence about cold weather with more anecdotal evidence: It’s blazing hot in Australia, with temperatures in some regions set to possibly soar above 120 degrees Fahrenheit in the coming days.

at the end of the day, the polar ice caps are still melting.
1) How do you account for the fact that water vapor is a bigger culprit than carbon dioxide where heat trapping is concerned?

2) How do you scientifically explain the normal lapse rate?

3) Derive the SI units of specific heat capacity beginning from its basic definition.

You clearly have a side. What is the motivation of 99% of climatologists and national academies of science to try and fool us? What's in it for them?

How do you explain the correlation of CO2 and temperature change in multiple core samples?

Do you really need actual proof or can mere evidence sway you? Isn't gravity still just a theory?

Your words clearly support my own theory of why conservatives tend to be deniers: That they are thinking with their wallets rather than their brains.

Let's see.

I have not seen evidence of a single prophecy getting fulfilled till date.

In science, we talk about evidence and confidence level and not proof.

Proof pertains to mathematics and to alcohol. LOL.

SUSAN: Snow is a sign of the coming of the Messiah. We'll probably have a record breaker.

JOEL: Snow?

Why not rain?

The world has experienced far worse winters than the present one.

So, snow is linked with the coming of some messiah who will be as ignorant and as impotent as the previous prophets? LOL.

Will this messiah establish world peace by mass killing of people who're opposed to his teachings?

Peace established on the basis of bloodshed will not introduce the requisite degree of a higher consciousness needed to regenerate the unregenerate human nature of the survivors.

Besides, peace should include a peace seen in the terrestrial nature, too - natural calamities should calm down or disappear.

Forget the appearance of the next species that exceeds the realm of the mind and with novel physiology to support the higher consciousness-force that surpasses the mental faculties..

The terrestrial nature is evidently evolutionary and is not subject to instant perfection.

"...At this point the science of the subject has been so politicized.."

That was the key statement from the gentleman from Singapore. I ask, politicized by whom? The only politics I see is from the conservative camp. I dont see it coming from the scientific camp. Reminds me of the Fox News strategy of making something controversial on a talk show, then doubling back on the news segment to report on it as an authentic controversy.

I did see the links, thank you. I would figure you would be more discerning that that, though.

Link 1 was from Commentary, not science. Links 2 and 3 - you do UNDERSTAND the difference between SEA ice and Polar (i.e. land) ice? Obviously not. Back to school.......

g = GM/R as a working hypothesis works well.

If one has doubts about the existence of the elusive graviton or gravitational waves, then switch to the electric universe and plasma cosmology hypotheses which appears to stand on firmer ground than than the current gravity based cosmological model.
