Operation Christmas Cheer: Monterey mom's troubles add up

Full story: Monterey County Herald

Within about a week, Karla Lobo lost her job as a property manager, was evicted from her apartment and became violently sick - which turned out to be a high-risk pregnancy that put her in the hospital for surgery.

Lobo said the owner of the property she once managed offered to reinstate her, but she declined because she was not willing to work under the supervisor who fired her.

You are very good at telling other people how to live their lives. You have a future in politics, son.

There must be a reason she was fired in the first place or she'd at least have some unemployment.
Without knowing all the details if i were in that situation I would take the job back rather than taking handouts and begging for help along with thousands of others right now. At least she has an opportunity.

I agree with David. This is no time to refuse a job.

She will soon have 2 children under 2 and is not married. What's with that?

The article does not say she is soon to be married. And it is an asumption that her "fiancÚ" is the father of either child. As long as there is Medi-Cal, ya don't need a husband.

After fighting two unjust tickets I took a "plea bargain, rather than loose in court and cost YOU $25,000 court costs per ticket (fifty grand). The way the system is set up these guys would have gotten that much to screw US. After over ten trips to Salinas the charges were reduced (on these two minor traffic violations) and the two years probabation (I was told it was mandatory at first - they lied) was dropped to no probation.
The TWO police officers both perjured themselves (lied) in court. Now my story begins...

You never know when someone is going to need your help. But last month two people were in dire straights needing money or going to be kicked to the streets and have their vehicle taken. I felt compelled to help these victims of society although my own finances would suffer. I missed by twnety-five dollar payment to the court and was assessed a $300 CIVIL ASSESSMENT. I had a choice though. I could have let one of the two people potentially BLOW THEIR BRAINS OUT and the other become completely homeless. CIVIL

At first I really felt sorry for her but she lost me at the end of the story, she was given back the ability to support her self.

If I was laid off or fired I would have jumped at the chance if my job was returned had I been in that dilemma.

Gee, can't she just send the 2nd baby back with the Tooth Fairy?

Laura do you know where babies come from and how they are made?

I swallow my pride every day and work at a job I don't like so I can feed my family. Also, I was married when I had my kids. Someone like Lobo deserves nothing from me.

when i was fired from a job, unemployment was there to help pay the bills. wondering why she isn't getting that help? additionally, am i the only person who thinks that people pay far too much attention to gift-giving during the holiday season? when did making a christmas for one's family become buying presents to put under a tree? how about taking her little one to church and showing him what the holiday's meaning truly is? without a doubt, there are people who are under far more financial stress than this person.

Maybe if they want to connect some real donations they need a more sympathic subject. Maybe a child of a fallen soldier or the family of a slain police officer or a family with a sick child? This Lobo woman is fortunate to be given a place to live with her child and boyfriend in gorgeous Monterey instead of being in a shelter.

I agree with you most of these people this year are a product of their own stupitidy and of their own mistakes, why should we help them.
This program should be for the people with unseen loss or sickness.
Handouts need to stop.
