Congratulations to the Monterey D.A.'s office for putting this murderer wherre he belongs. May he spend every hour in prison suffering for what he has done. Mel and Elizabeth can rest now.

Bless their Souls, Mel and Elizabeth... This monster of a person shall be put away for the rest of his life, for tragically ending theirs. A pity that they had to endure his years of harrassing them over this sliver of dirt, and making them scared.. If anyone should have been scared, its not Kenny, it would be this nice couple. I am so glad he was guilty as charged.

Not a shocker. Good thing the jury didn't waste too much time. Good riddance Kenney. Watch YOUR back in the slammer.

May Mel and Elizabeth rest in peace irregardless of the outcome, but Mr. Kenney was not guilty he was just trying to defend himself. The jury didn't believe him because of a dispute about 1988 or 1994 which has nothing to do with self defense at the scene. They charged at him what would you do if you were old and with a cane and someone tried to hit you with a sledgehammer?

In Defense, What would I do? I would not have started an argument with a neighbor over a 4 x 10 foot patch of dirt. I would not have gone outside to meet neighbors who might have hurt me, I would have called 911. I would not have had an illegal gun. Kenney is found guilty because of what he did. Because he was NOT the victim. Being old does not relieve you of responsibility for being honest, and the jury found he lied to them. I was surprised he admitted to shooting Mel while he was falling, and Elizabeth while she was on the ground. Kenney convinced himself that he had a right to shoot them if he was "afraid," but his actions prove he was not afraid. He had the gun, he could have pointed it at them and ordered them to go back to their house, that would have kept Kenney alive, but he chose to shoot first. He made no attempt to escape, in fact he couldn't wait to get into it with the Grimes, that's why he got his gun and left the house so quickly. But most importantly, shooting someone in the back is not self defense and he shot Elizabeth in the back. I don't understand how you can stick up for him. Did you not follow the trial at all?

You're attempting to justify shooting an unarmed woman in the back and you think Army is scary? Wow.

Gemstone, JavaJunkie and Friend Of All, thanks for the support! I surely don't know everything, but I have followed this trial closely because I have a shared driveway with an easement in a wooded section of Monterey County, so the trial was very interesting for me.

In Defense - I don't think you've been following the trial very closely.

John Kenney killed two unarmed people. He shot a crouching woman in the back. He shot both of them twice. The property in dispute was NOT owned by Kenney. The property in dispute had been USED by the Grimes' for 10 years BEFORE John Kenney even bought his house.

You do realize, don't you, that you heard exactly ONE side of the story? Do you even get why that is? That's because the two people who could tell the other side of the story were both dead. They couldn't say one word in their own defense.

Did you listen to the 911 phone call from Elizabeth Grimes? She was not angry or defensive or attacking John Kenney. She was scared. It was NOT the voice of an agressive (petite) woman attacking a poor old defenseless man with a cane. He was not defenseless, remember? He had a gun. Did you happen to read about John Kenney's description of how he was holding the gun? He was holding it as he was taught in the service - with two hands. Where was the cane that this poor, defenseless man needed? Oh yeah - about that gun - it was the gun that he lied about having. Would an upstanding citizen lie about having a gun? Personally, I feel that what occurred was premeditated. John Kenney received a much lighter verdict than I would have given him.

And by the way, Mel Grimes was a friend from years ago. He never once displayed even the tiniest bit of anger in all the time I knew him.

I'm sorry that you don't have your facts straight. Or your opinions.

If I thought my neighbors were scary, I certainly wouldnt order up a boulder and drop it behind their car. This guy is a calculating jerk. Have they sent his DNA to all of the other places he called "home"? Bet this isnt the first serious crime. And, if he had all these other places to go to, why choose to live where there was such hostility?...HOSTILE?

Linda, interesting statement you said., re: Kenny's DNA. His other homes. I feel he has killed before., and not in the service. It comes too easy for him, and his lies. Almosts pathological.
