The Red Rail closed down October, 1980. A club named "The Alamo" took over the location. The name was changed to "On the Rox", and that is the club that burnt down.

Hot turkey sandwhiches with real mashed potatoes, and fresh green beans. That place was great! I don't know about it closing though, I still fish the Ramapough river but havent been to the Red Apple Rest in sometime. I'm going to try over the holidays to pass by(my brother lives near there)I'll let you know what's up with the joint.

It wasn't bad as the Alamo, still had good acts, but some weird ones too. One time, they held a "Guys Night" with free beer til 10. The band was mostly ignored, Blue Angel. Whole bunch of drunk guys noting how nice Cyndi Lauper's legs were.

I have a Blue Angel album,Cyndi used to open for my friend Marks' band "Headlines". I first met her out on the island. She was nice but kinda weird.

I loved the Red Rail. I used to get in when I was underage to go hear some of the great Chicago blues bands that he booked in there. I remember seeing James Cotton, Luther Allison, Son Seals, and others. Also saw some really good folk & rock acts. I remember Horace. I danced with him once. Too bad I missed seeing Springsteen there, before he got famous. Patti Smith played there too.

See my profile photo taken across from the Nanuet Hotel. I think it is the old Rail and I hear it burnt after it was something else but I don't think it burnt to the ground. The original tin ceilings are still there and the layout on the inside looks like it used to when it was the Rail. Any comments?
