Central Basin Municipal Water District Board Fires Attorney Alvarez-Glasman
Wednesday's meeting was supposed to be a simple do-over of the Central Basin Municipal Water District board of directors meeting last week when its chief operating officer was fired and a new president was elected. It was anything but when after more than an hour long closed session meeting, it was announced the board had fired its attorney, Arnold Alvarez-Glasman. In his place, the board hired Ricardo Olivarez, the city attorney for Cudahy and El Monte.
"(Olivarez) is offering us better rates," Board Member Leticia Vazquez said. "He has a lot of experience from doing labor law to working with local government and municipalities." The contract with Olivarez still has to be negotiated, she said.
Board secretary Maggie Gomez told the board there was confusion last week because there were two meetings - one called by the then-board President Art Chacon and the other by a board majority of Robert Apodaca, Roybal and Vasquez.
