Sadly, it is so clear that each member has their own agenda to be sitting on the dias. Until they can demonstrate to the residents of Montebello that there is a sense of UNITY, seems the city will continue to diminish at the residents expense.

People need to start recalling so that councilmembers are reminded that the PEOPLE have the last word ultimately. COST to recall or further damage and financial distress to the Montebello residents.

Until there is change and UNITY, nothing positive will begin to transpire in the CITY of MONTEBELLO. These are adults and people who claim they have the best interest of the residents at hand. WOW!

There is truly nothing to look forward to with this group and their self indugence behavior. LET'S get real!

We need people who truly have heart and dignity, not who want a paycheck and publicity/title.

We need people who are honest and truly going to WALK THE TALK not TALK THE TALK!!!!

Uh, are you trying to say there should be another recall election?
Do you even know how the recall election process works? You need to read this:
Procedure for Recalling State and Local Officials
http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/recalls/recal...
The process is very time consuming and can be VERY EXPENSIVE for the group who launches the recall and for the City of Montebello.
In the last recall election (against Salazar and Urteaga) Los Angeles County elections officials charged the City of Montebello $150,000 to administer the election.
That's money out of the taxpayer's pockets.
Right now, the only sitting councilmembers who could be the subject of a recall are Christina Cortez and Jack Hadjinian. Both of them have a large base of supporters so it would probably be very hard to get enough qualified signatures on a recall petition against them. Also, they were elected in November 2011 so they only have 2 more years until they up for re-election.
Frank Gomez will be out of office this November and doesn't plan to run again.
Bill Molinari and Art Barajas are up for re-election this November. If voters don't vote for them again, they won't need to be recalled.

Thanks for the appreciation but you didn't answer my question, are you trying to say there should be another recall? Against who, Christina Cortez, Art Barajas or both? Why?

The information I gave you is not my opinion, it's facts. The only statement I made that might be considered an "informed opinion" is:

"Both of them have a large base of supporters so it would probably be very hard to get enough qualified signatures on a recall petition against them."

You can deduce their popularity by the number of votes each one received during the last election.

Election results, November 2011
http://www.smartvoter.org/2011/11/08/ca/la/ra...

Christina Cortez 2,146 votes 26.25%

Jack Hadjinian 1,735 votes 21.22%

Election results, November 2009
http://www.smartvoter.org/2009/11/03/ca/la/ra...

William M. "Bill" Molinari 2,885 votes 17.17%

Arturo R. "Art" Barajas 2,738 votes 16.30%

Frank A. Gomez 2,300 votes 13.69%

This is America, I'm not saying I completely agree with the choices the voters made during these elections but I respect the system.

I appreciate you sharing your facts and opinion. I prefer not to make this an open debate. I actually have learned alot from these forums on the activity that is taking place in Montebello. I can only hope for the best in the coming years.

"Lead by example", after expressing disenchantment with Montebello's current councilmembers, expressed the opinion that "people need to start recalling". Now, this same person claims that she/he prefers "not to make this an open debate". I wonder what this person is trying to accomplish by encouraging recall efforts for unnamed city elected officials? Is encouraging generalized pandemonium, which a recall can be, responsible or good for Montebello?

BALDWIN PARK >> It is increasingly likely that the debate over whether the city should disband its police department will go to voters.

Big question is Could Montebello shed huge Pension liability?

Debate is similar to one in Montebello

They say the switch could save the city some $4 million, citing a preliminary study that concluded patrolling by the Sheriff’s Department would cost about $15 million annually, while the Baldwin Park Police Department costs more than $19 million a year.

But opponents of the switch, including Pacheco and Councilwoman Susan Rubio, challenge those numbers.

They say the police budget figure includes crossing guards, animal control and other services that would not be part of a contract with the Sheriff’s Department. Instead, they say the cost of city policing by the department is closer to $15 million. And they say the local department would do a better job protecting the community.

Pacheco also says the city is relying on outdated budget numbers in its decision-making. The council has yet to approve a budget for fiscal 2013-2014, which began July  1. The council in June delayed budget discussions because of an extended vacancy in the finance director post and to develop a more comprehensive financial plan for the city.

The city is expected to release a draft budget next week.

“To really know where we stand with our budget  .. . we really need some answers,” Pacheco said.

I asked you, "Are you trying to say there should be another recall election?" You answered indirectly by writing:

So your answer is: yes.

Now that you've learned the facts about what is involved in accomplishing a recall, have you changed your mind?

BTW, you don't have to mention any names, the names of the Montebello council members are a matter of public record and there are only two current council members who could be subject to a recall.

First of all, you cannot speak for me when you say you know who I want to be recalled! Off the hook easily! I will not even entertain this comment! This is a public forum! Please do not give so much energy to my concerns and thoughts. For the record, I do not want any particular person to be recalled. I just want a council who can at least agree to disagree and work in unity to move this city forward. I will not be commenting on anymore of your comments here. It is not a personal agenda for me. I would just like to see a city that can finally prosper and council who can finally get along for the good of the city of Montebello.
Have a great day!

"Lead By Example" states that he/she just wants " a council that can at least agree to disagree and work in unity to move this city forward ". Sometimes spirited discussions and even downright ugly disagreements are part of the political and governmental process. They may be necessary to fully air all views and make choices clear. When I see a bland and seemingly mellow "unity" among governmental elected officials I sometimes become suspicious. I wonder, what's going on behind the scenes? Those of us who've observed various Montebello City Councils for years remember all too well the different "gangs of three" on the council who got along but made terrible decisions. So I say, Montebello City Council, squabble on.

What u r saying has it correct
ONLY TWO RECALABLE
"Right now, the only sitting councilmembers who could be the subject of a recall are Christina Cortez and Jack Hadjinian.

Both of them have a large base of supporters so it would probably be very hard to get enough qualified signatures on a recall petition against them.
Also, they were elected in November 2011 so they only have 2 more years until they up for re-election."

They can do a lot of damage in two years if they could form majorities.
Who has enough money to make strange bedfellows>

Not hard to get the signatures, just either takes shoe leather or Paid signature gatherers.
Who has the money to Pay signature gatherers.
Remember all the invalid signatures gathered by Athens Black Shirts???

Evidently both shoe leather and funds are available to referendise any condo project should it get that far.

Lead be example is on target. The majority of this council and several past should be and should have been recalled, never voted in, and/or never run for office. Trash Talk certainly talks trash. Gomez has been the only upfront one with concrete ideas in decades. Unfortunately, his ideas are too complex for the others to grasp let alone the majority of the citizens. Back to the recall issue. Too expensive, too much work, too much of a black eye on an already poorly perceived city drowning in red ink due to past councils including Molinari and verbal assaults from Cortez over the past two years. Don't expect things to get better the next few years as the city falls deeper into mediocrity.

As a physics major many decades ago, I feel compelled to remind everyone that everything is always radioactive. However, the radioactivity of lead is very low.

If a chemical or subatomic metaphor in comparison to Montebello politicians who touch the three above Deadly Issues, I humbly offer the following:

When egg whites are in their unsolid form, they can go to a lot of different forms and places, without being set in any particular place or position. If you add the heat of an unpopular (with the voters) idea, the egg white (Montebello politician) gets frozen in place (because it's an irreversible colloid) and is unable to move significantly or change its position.

Words have meanings, and if you use certain words, certain meanings can be reasonably inferred. You have very compelling ideas, and understanding them completely can only help you make your case.

Having been deeply involved with two recalls, I echo others' characterizations of them as expensive and difficult, and they are usually only successful with clear, easily understood issues.

As stated by many millions of people, the idea of "Principles before Personalities" can only help civic and civil discussion of political (and other) matters.

Picking on someone for not answering a direct question is probably not respectful or helpful, and cutting off communication probably makes the cutter look like they have something to hide or be ashamed of.

Isn't respectful and comprehensive discussion a fruitful way to bring up political issues in a useful and informative manner?

Whats going on with this idiotic talk about UNITY, as though that solves anyones problems?????

The government that showed the most UNITY in history was the USSR!!!! They didin't have a lot of arguement or different ideas making things look messy, they UNITY coming out of their butts!!!

Most of the Soviets peoples and governments votes were 100% yes or no. Is that what you want for Montebello??? Everyone walking along in each others footsteps with no talking about differnt ways to do thisngs???

I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me LIBERTY and stuff your UNITY where the sun doesnt shine!!!!!!

Tthe only thing that's obvious is that "CALM DOWN" doesn't know what she/he is talking about. "Lead ByExample" didn't call anyone a "crook". Apparently "CALM DOWN" wants to lower the tone of the discussion by making the generic (and unsubstantiated) accusation that certain people are "crooks" and "guilty" of who knows what. "Lead By Example" wanted unity and (apparently) harmony. "CALM DOWN" is attempting to promote the exact opposite.

I think 42 yr North Mtb resident changed his major and became an ideologue stuck on the hills project and bent on blogging thousands of times on topix the past several years. Enough of listening to someone who probably has little say and no doubt no vote on what is going to happen in "them there hills". This city council is impotent and will keep the city stagnant due to their lack of ideas. The hills are no saving grace but constructive discussion, not found here, to build or not to build, is needed.
