I blame the city, incompetent, this would not have been a good use of city funds, why not fund a clean up project, more cops etc, what a waste and you got duped, stupid politicians, if anybody should be audited, its the City government, a totally bankrupt bunch in itself

Of course they declared BK -- and the stupid Hawthorne City Council -- always bending over to "attract business" bought it. Gold's Gym is a POS with a lousy reputation and Hawthorne CC members were hooked. First, they jettisoned the DHL facility. No problem there -- many of us took our shipping business to Manhattan Beach to other shippers -- can you say FedEx or UPS? Hawthorne (Guidi) is in love with getting in bed with businesses that then go belly-up (360, for example). Stop. Giving. Big Business. Favors. What about us little guys -- we help foot the bill for Big Biz that takes the money and runs. Not a biz brain in the city.

I'm glad our current city council is upset about what happened.. unfortunately its late and we are screwed either way, but we can at least find a solution and work to not let this happen again...

Gee where will the fire department spend their time now?, With a fire truck seemingly parked in front of the gym everytime I drove by going to Home Depot. I thought there was a Fire Station there.

Thank god they're working out. I couldn't imagine having a bunch of fat, weak firefighters trying to rescue me or my family in the event of an emergency, fire or medical.

hmmmm, low-income residents?, Felons? Doesn't sound safe to me ...Hawthorne is a ghetto, but at least it keeps the trash from coming and working out in Torrance and Redondo.
You get what you deserve. I wonder how much of the "cash up front" for memberships actually made it into the register?
I wonder how many free memberships were constructed by those employees who just love "getting over on the system".

What is not exposed in the article is that the owner of Golds Gym is a good friend, huge contributor and confidant of Mayor Larry Guidi. Guidi tried to use his position to influence other cities to give the owner "sweetheart" financial deals to establish other gyms. The owner tried to get involved with many South Bay city council and mayor races to help establish a network of influence not only for him but also for Guidi's benefit. Hawthorne, good luck getting paid back.

Oh Hawthorne, is there anything you can't F up?

Nothing but a 3rd world city run by the greedy and dishonest - however not an unfair representation of its voting public. They got exactly what they voted for.

I work out at that gym and this explains a lot. what I don't understand is that the Redondo facility that he owns is kept top notch, no broken anything, new equipment, etc. Maybe he should take some of that money and pay back his loan or fix the f'ed up gym. The sad part is the staff there is at a loss to tell memebers why their gym is falling apart

If it bothers you so much go down there to tell them what they should be doing, then come back to tell everyone what happened.

this is what happens with these so called "public/private partnerships". Any profits get privatized. Taxpayers get stuck paying for the losses.
