Assy Speaker Perez had Ex-Montebello Politco TOM CALDERON Removed from Democratic Golf Fundraiser

There are 11 comments on the touch.latimes.com story from Aug 27, 2013, titled Assy Speaker Perez had Ex-Montebello Politco TOM CALDERON Removed from Democratic Golf Fundraiser . In it, touch.latimes.com reports that:

As Democrats gathered at Pebble Beach for the annual Speaker’s Cup fundraiser over the Cinco de Mayo weekend, former Assemblyman Tom Calderon was among the dozens of lobbyists, consultants, corporate executives and elected officials on hand for the world-class golf, four-star cuisine and political schmoozing. But when he was spotted by Assembly Speaker John A. Perez (D-Los Angeles), the host of the event, Perez had his aides ask Calderon to leave.

Calderon obliged, and a $20,000 check which Calderon’s client, Pacific Hospital of Long Beach, wrote for Calderon’s ticket to the event was refunded, according to campaign finance records filed with the secretary of state’s office this week.

Doesn't Corruption, Cook-Hill, Calderons, Condos seem to all go together?

Current councilmembers might be cautioned not to touch the Tar Baby that is the proposed Montebello Hills residential condo development.

Are there any specifics proposed by Cook Hills that you may want to share or is this just heresay? Why are some residents against the cook hill project?

Browse the Montebello Forum here at Topix.com and you'll find at least 5 years worth of postings made by residents of Montebello who are opposed to the Cook Hill project but, since you just criticized others for expressing their negative opinions about Cook Hill, I have a feeling you aren't as naive about this project as you're trying to appear.

Take your pick from among my posts of the last 5 years. I quote Crook Hill specifics ad nauseum.

Lots more can be found at www.saveourmontebellohills.com in the fact sheets section, most of which are from Cook-Hill's own documents.

Also, you have an incorrect characterization of the residents who are against the proposed condo project. Virtually ALL of the residents of Montebello are against the proposal. By direct count, only 55 stated residents out of more than 4,000 surveyed support the proposal. Almost all of the rest are violently against it, and when they hear the project specifics are extremely surprised that the city council hasn't yet rejected the proposal out of hand.

Why are some residents against condos in the hills?
Should be why are any residents for condos in the hills.
Overwhelming number- not "some" are against condos
Unpaid supporters are few and far between.
Councilpersons in favor were voted out of office.
Council Persons who oppose condos were elected and re-elected.
Neighboring Condos lower single family home values.
Simple as that

Sometimes a voter reads a political comment on a blog or social-media site and canít tell if itís a citizenís heartfelt opinion, a piece of journalism, or propaganda from a campaign professional.

But a new California campaign rule may help to clear up such mysteries in the future.

Thursday, the stateís Fair Political Practices Commission approved a regulation that will require campaign committees to reveal when they pay someone to create digital content.

Hope the rule proves easier to enforce than opponents claim it will.

We editorialized in favor of the rule last month. Nobody paid us except our publisher.

There are quite a few residents for the Cook Hills Project because they feel it will bring jobs and help stimulate the economy in Montebello.

There is an overwhelming number who is for the project.
Council people who are for the project are some of your current councilmembers, have you asked them?
Neighboring condos will not lower single family home values.

55 for condos out of 4,000 residents asked is definitely an overwhelming number.

"quite a few" as in very few
"they feel"
oh goody "they feel"
not they KNOW
42 year and his polling knows
Bring jobs? sure for the build out but not long term.
Jobs mostly to large grading contractor and hazardous waste cleanup and re plugging 300 oil wells
Not jobs for Montebello citizens.
Proven ding bat housing contractor would bring in his own (out of state) crew with some local window dressing.
City cannot require the developer to hire locally.

On site models with captive sales force- not much for local real estate interests unless developer gives discounts(ya right) to allow "condo flipping?
Do you really think they are going to leave dollars laying on the table?
Neighboring condos reduce neighboring property values about as much as a Wal-Mart or a train track.
Location, Location, Location
vs.
There goes the neighborhood
Think of a gated community like Bradbury and Montebello as its drive thru.
Just an inconvenience when getting to the freeway,
Wonder why

At the ANC Candidate's forum yesterday not one of the four candidates present expressed support for the proposed Montebello Hills condo project. All spoke glowingly about the need for retail/commercial development. All stated that safety and health concerns must come first and that any proposed development on this active oilfield would have to be proven to be safe before they could be supportive of developing there at all. The revenue the city receives from the oil drilling was mentioned. Two candidates referred to their experience fighting the dump which is now an EPA Superfund Site. There were repeated references to the fact that business sales taxes and fees provide over half of the city's income and that the city's future depends on attracting new businesses. None of the candidates spoke glowingly of dense condo projects.
