Girl, 15, testifies in teacher's sexual abuse trial

Full story: Inland Valley Daily Bulletin

When the first-grader would raise her hand in class, James Andrew Megaw would come to her desk, squat beside her, and press her hand against his crotch.

Oh my God!!! What kind of sick freak tells their child that iif she tells on a man who is MOLESTING her, she will be the reason that his family is broken up?!!! It isn't bad enough that this child was violated but to have a family impress upon a first grader that under no circumsatnces do you say or do anything that will lead to a family's demise? One is just as bad as the other!
Don't even try to defend this by saying it is the actions and mind of a first grader--she had to have learned this somewhere!!!

jhf, re-read the story. He never told her that his marriage would fail if she said anything. She believed that. How many 1st graders think like that? Not many, not even today. She didn't say anything to anyone until 2 years later, when she told her mother. And mom did nothing??? What kind of mother hears her daughter tell her that and does nothing??

Please. You say she had to have learned this somewhere, yeah she did. From growing up and hearing all about the rampant sexual abuse by clergy that was all over the news and tv. From growing up and talking with others.

Do I think anything happened 10 years ago to her? I don't know. I do know that what she says she believed back then isn't something that kids think at that age.

Am I defending him? NO way. If he did something, let him do the time. But it's hard to believe that a kid tells her mom something 2 years after it happens and mom does nothing. Just too hard for me to believe, especially in the era of "sue, baby, sue."

10 years later this is still a bother to her?Why didn't she go to the school officials when her Mother did nothing?Did this teacher have any other similar complaints? Why wait so long to bring this up?Could it be all the press concerning the catholic church?Who knows, but a bit suspicous with the timing. If he did it then he deserves to be punished but as it stands, his life is pretty much in shambles now.

I'm guessing that this isn't the last victim that is going to testify. Probably hear that the dude had a huge child porn collection too. Did the Upland School District move this guy around after allegations the same way the Catholic Church was moving priests after these allegations? I sure hope that these allegations are false for the sake of the kids and Megaw's familiy, but once all the evidence is heard, I think we are all going to want the book thrown at the guy and want alot of answers from the Upland School District.

This is turning into a Michael Jackson style case. So the girl gets molested, tells her parents, but yet they move to Arizona? This is so not looking good for the victims (if there is any). I say polygraph this teacher and the kids too. This is a waste of taxpayer money. Too much speculations and not enough hard evidence.

I am familiar with the case and the teacher. From what I have heard in the beginning is there is no way this man could have done theses things. The people that knew him and defended him at first are not so sure now that like 8 children have come forward, none of them said anything until one boy said something last year. The rest of the kids that came forward are all former students from years ago. I am torn. In a way I hope he did do it so he can be punished and taken care of in jail, and because if he didn't do it his life is ruined anyways. I just feel so bad for these kids.

I agree. People dwell on what the media feeds them OVER AND OVER again. Pedophilia is something thats been amplified in the media in a sick way. What is with the obsession? Add to that sexually explicit content (yeah I've seen it on regular T.V.) and you got a kid that has been brainwashed. If you got kids, tell them about these type of people. Instead of some news channel doing it for you.

You doubters out there need to wake up. Pedophiles who work in an occupation that affords them access to children all exhibit the same set of behaviors. They are usually charming, popular, and well-liked by their peers and parents. They give kids rewards that make them feel special, like getting to watch TV during class instead of working. They touch kids a little more than other adults, hugging and patting and giving gifts and having alone time behind closed doors. It is all part of the snow-job to keep molesting. The kids didn't tell anyone because this case involves a seemingly innocuous method of molesting by clothed touching while helping a child with homework. That is not the kind of 'bad' touching parents teach their kids about. These are 7 and 8 year olds. Some of them told their parents, but the parents didn't get it or thought their kids were mistaken. After all, it happens while he's helping with classwork and it is not an obvious or violent molestation. And Mr. Megaw is well-liked, so the kid must be confused, right? You will come to find out that he has been doing this to kids for many many years. Just be patient.

I'm not a "doubter". I'm just basing my comments on the presented statements. So far the kids haven't made sense. Yeah it's horrible that the kids have to go through this, but kids can just as easily lie too. I'm not taking sides. I just want hard evidence that can make me choose who's right and who's wrong (as if my comment will solve the case LOL). So far niether side has made me decide. This case sounds too much like a "stupid teacher giving me detention, im gonna make up a story so i can get him in trouble" case to me.

If you think this is an intricate plot by 7 year olds to avoid detention, how do you explain this girl from almost a decade ago? How do you explain that before Megaw was even arrested in October 2008, she told her therapist in confidence that he touched her in exactly the same unique manner these kids would later say he touched them?

She said she didnt want to tell on her teacher because he's married and didn't want her teacher to get seperated. How many 7 or 8 year olds really care about someone's marital status (unless its their own parents getting a divorce)? Seriously.

I can't, this incident should've been reported at the time and now its come forward? Sounds like the attorney is looking for some help.

Kids Lie.
Adults Lie.
Lawyers prosecute and defend.
Jurors have to follow the directions of the judge and they can't have any REASONABLE DOUBT.

Well, sounds like they are going after a little doubt. This is our legal system. We have to let it do its job. I wonder how many good people tried to skip out on jury duty. He will be tried in the court of public opinion, but the legal system has to run its course. Either way, a lot of lives have been screwed
