Mtb. Councilmember Hadjinian Target of L.A. D.A. Inquiry

Aug 22, 2012 | Posted by: 42 yr North Mtb resident | Full story: latimesblogs.latimes.com

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office has launched an inquiry into the campaign finances of Montebello Councilmember Jack Hadjinian. Prosecutors said they’re looking at possible wrongdoing related to campaign contributions, but warned there was no evidence yet that a crime had been committed.

David Demerjian, head deputy of the district attorney’s public integrity division, acknowledged that the inquiry began with information discovered during an ongoing criminal probe into allegations that L.A. County Assessor John Noguez and his staff had given tax cuts to political supporters.

I wonder if this will be raised at tonight's city council meeting by any of the councilmembers or public.

Do you realize that, so far, every Montebello councilmember who has reportedly voiced support for the Montebello Hills condo proposal has either lost their seats, been recalled, or has now come under scrutiny by the LA DA?

D.A.'s Office opens inquiry into Montebello Councilman over $5,000 campaign contribution

Hadjinian - a real estate agent who was successfully elected to the Montebello Council last year -

said he never saw Salari's money because his campaign treasurer at the time was Kinde Durkee.

Durkee, a Democratic campaign treasurer, was arrested last year and pleaded guilty to stealing more than $7 million from politicians.

"I think a lot of attention was brought to that campaign contribution that I never received," Hadjinian said Tuesday

Demerjian said it is unclear how long it will take to look into the most recent case, or whether it will lead to an official investigation into Hadjinian.

"An inquiry means that we are opening a case and we are taking a look, but we don't know if anybody has committed a crime or not," Demerjian said.

"Even if these things are true, I can't even say if it's a crime or not. We're just looking into it."

42 yr old...is once again trying to tie something unrelated to his fixation on the proposed Hills project. Will he ever learn? I doubt it. Move on buddy! Perhaps you should focus on what may be coming down the pipe regarding Cortez and associates.

Hadjinian must think us stupid. He received money from Salari, and he reported it. Whether he used it or not is not the issue.

In the LA Weekly article

Hadjinian is quoted saying he took Salari’s money and was voting on an issue Salari was lobbying on.

Playing word games with the press is bad enough. Just try that with the DA and FBI Mr. Hadjinian and see what kind of view you get from prison.

On the contrary, I was just pointing out the apparent kharmic boomerang that has apparently hit all the councilmembers who have supported the current condo development proposal. If it has affected all such councilmembers, it is, by definition, related to these people.

You have apparently not payed attention to recent Montebello politics, but there are nearly always (only time not) at least two representatives from the proposed developer at city council meetings. You also probably don't know, but they speak to a number of people and councilmembers before and after the meetings. Those who keep up with Montebello politics understand the relationship between supporting an incredibly unpopular project, and the damage that support does to local politicians.

Don't you just love the way they wind up a couple of their little old lady supporters and have them make their points for them.

Jack has a problem as a Realestate professional.
Brokers think that the condos would bring more business to Board of Relator members.
However all sales would be made by a subsidary of the developer and the commissions shipped out of town.
No money spent in Montebello.
So increased business is a fantasy until re-sales, short-sales and forclosures.

I do not see any problem with Jack's campaign taking the donations.
Or if they were stolen, and he did dislose them in his FPPC reporting and at a hearing.

I see an Ethics viloation under the US Supreme Court Nevada Ethics Commission decision

The problem is suggested here

from Los Cerritos Community News:

"At the time he collected the political donations, Hadjinian was serving as an “alternate board member” of the property appeals assessment board and did participate in several hearings."

"Hadjinian ... touted his close political and personal relationships with Salari and Noguez."

"Hadjinian and Noguez have become close political and personal allies during the past several years."

SGV tribune
"Hadjinian sat in on an appeal hearings for a Salari client and never recused himself. "

"The allegation is that Mr. Hadjinian received campaign contributions for the City Council race from (Salari) who was presenting something before him at the appeals board,"

Jack just dosen't get it...
"Hadjinian at the time said the corruption probe into Noguez was misguided."

"I think it's unfortunate that they're spending so much time making accusations and assumptions,"

So a seperate issue is if his campaign took money or not or if his manager stole it.
Jack would have a problem even with no campaign donations given the US Supreme Courts decision in the Nevada Ethics Case.

Kathy Salazar would have a problem with Helms and Hill and Athens without campaign contributions given their presence on the board of her Chairity.

With Campaign contributions and donations to her charity her subsequent actions on their behalf is very suspect.(unethical)

. Hmmm...Pico Rivera Councilman David Armenta recently voted for the trash hauler that Jack "formally" worked as GM for?!? Rumor also has it Armenta took a $100,000 kickback to provide the third vote? Wonder what Jack's role in that deal was? This is local politics all the way!

This clown Jack Hadjinian is closed to Chris Teague, President, Chevrolet of Montebello. Chris asked a personal favor from Jack to smear a good man's life because he happens to be the ex of one of Chris' booty calls.

Jack is dirty but Cortez is worse. She should be investigated by the DA. Both of them need to stay on the council for financial reasons as does Barajas. Without their city council jobs and the salaries and benefits they recieive from them, they would be out a pretty penny. Their jobs are low on the totem pole with little chance of advancement. They are using their elected positions to help themselves personally all at the expense of the people of Montebello.

Rumor has it Cortez has been harassing employees at City Hall to the extent that state mandated investigations have been stifled by Glasman trying to save his job. This is against state law. Hadginian is rumored to live in Glendale and uses his moms address in Montebello. Not to mention the Noguez connection. Barajas funnels his contacts fron the council to feed his band and his shirt business. Does this influence how he votes? Won't these kids ever learn that you can't make a living off of serving the public good? Yes, they should all resign before they are caught.

How can a city attorney stifle state mandated investigations? If the state says your being investigated, your being investigated no matter what some small time city attorney says. Glasman has a bunch of jobs. He won't go hungry if he loses Montebello.

Urteaga supposedly slept on his moms couch every night, and no one called the DA. Veneziano supposedly lives in Monterey park and he almost ran for city council. its all just standard Montebello politics.

Hey guys,

What's the deal with Cortez and what was said? Any proof?

All this politics is b.s. now, what I want to know is what does MONTEBELLO need to do to catch up to the rest of LA county. By this I mean..... Fix the parks. Where are the programs? Why are the courts ugly and falling apart? Where are the employees? Everything in the parks seems under_done". Meaning, I never see anyone other than at city park and a ranger driving around once
In a while. Most
Cities have employees manning their facilities and caring for their parks, I never see anyone at Holifield park. There's a nice building that's always

Who is this woman that comes to council meetings with so much information on Cortez? Sounds like she is getting inside stuff from employees afraid of retaliation. Perhaps a class action suit coming down the pipe for harassment. Rosie Vasquez was nothing compared to this girl; out of control.

That woman who speaks at the council meeting speaks a lot of truth about Cortez and her cronies. Talk around city hall is she is going to run the city clerk and the loser from the last election Gallarzo in the November election. Man, if she gets control of the council Montebello will be in the sewer faster than you can count to 1 (which none of them can). Talk about a bunch of crooks running the city. City of Bell, here we come!
