Montebello Oil Field Owner PXP Pleads Guilty in Montebello Spill Case
Oil and gas company Plains Exploration & Production, current owners of the Montebello Hills Oil Field that had the July 9 brush fire, has pled guilty to causing an oil spill and failing to report it.
Deputy District Attorney Dan Wright says the company in May agreed to pay $75,000, well over the maximum amount usually set for these types of crimes. Of that amount $50,000 will go toward the Department of Fish and Game’s oil response cleanup fund, $20,000 toward Los Angeles County’s testing lab, and $5,000 to pay for equipment used in the District Attorney’s office’s environmental investigations.
Last August, the district attorney’s environmental protection section filed eight misdemeanor charges against PXP, alleging that they failed to report oil spilled into the Rio Hondo River in 2010.

They got caught not reporting this spill. How many others might have happened before they got caught THIS time?
In Baldwin Park, PXP has been documented doing many other shady dealings.
How can anything this company and its wholly owned subsidiary, Cock-Hill says be taken at face value? Almost every substantial statement that the CH spokesmen says is composed of half-truths, misstatements of fact, or misleading inferences. After I record the 7/11 city council meeting off channel 3, I'll have more specifics to clarify that assertion.
The developer has repeatedly asserted that "The public has never has access to the Hills.", despite everyone in Montebello who lived here long before PXP dropped the Iron Curtain around the Hills knowing that to be false. Even one of their strongest proponents in Montebello wrote in the My Montebello Memories site that she played in the unfenced Hills every day.

AH the Operating Industries Superfund site.
Any connextion with Athens?
Back in the day we just called it the "DUMP"
But some in Montebello called it Racket Mountain
due to all the bulldozers working up there 24/7
The name live on!!
The aroma of it and Hillside dairy are long gone.
Our girl scout troop camped in the Hills on a regular basis, looked for arrowheads and fossils.
Judy Johnson had a collection. She was the daughter of the leesee of "Johnsons Ranch" (ranch house now under the "Towne Center")
You could drive into Judy's from Arroyo Drive- up "Sycamore Canyon" (still on some maps) then over the hills. It was a shortcut to High School.
I wonder what they did with the springs that were in Sycamore Canyon and are now under the Shops of Montebello??
Mount Trashmore is current usage
