If you're so great chrissy tell one of these people what their typewriter is worth. A website with helpful information was posted much earlier, but the stupid asses who keep asking what their typewriter is worth are too lazy to even look at that. They just want someone to do the work for them. People like you who stick up for the lazy people make it even worse.

There are many millions of typewriters that still work, in great shape, in every community in the US. Because of their high cost, people didn't dispose of these as quickly as they did their meat & coffee grinders.

I'm sorry but you may not be able to get an antique dealer to take Grandpa's typewriter for free, just to keep it for posterity. Dealers must pay for their space, dust, move items to clean. In other words, the typwriter would be in their way.

One consolation... with the price of scrap going up, you might be able to obtain a small remuneration - providing you sort it out by metal.

I realize this is an old thread, but to everyone trying to find out how old your typewriter is, The Typewriter Database ( ) has a complete list of serial numbers and the dates they were manufactured. The serial number can usually be found near the back right corner, under the carriage when it's moved all the way to the left.
As far as value goes, it really depends on condition and rarity. Most typewriters go for somewhere between $10 and $50, but some very early models (like ones that came out before the QWERTY layout was standard) can fetch quite a bit more.
There are, of course, typewriter dealers online who are selling professionally restored machines for hundreds of dollars, but your best bet is to check eBay for a more realistic idea of what it's worth.
Bottom line, your typewriter is worth as much as someone else is willing to pay for it.

I have a typewriter I found in a creek while fishing, I'm not sure what kind or model because it's pretty well rusted and also full of silt and some crayfish were living in it. In fact, I wasn't entirely sure it was a typewriter, at first I thought it may have been an old ammo box or just a squarish rock, but my wife likes those kinds of things so I washed it a bit and what I believe was a spacebar fell off.

Anyway, it looks to be between five and two hundred years old, and it's entirely possible that famous novels were written on it or even copies of the Bible, although I suppose it's equally possible bad things like dirty movie scripts were written on it too. Either way, this should increase the value.

Can anyone give me a price for this typewriter? I was going to put it on ebay for $400, but I decided to take it to an antique shop but when I get there it was sunday and they closed for some reasin so I went to a pawn shop and he threw me out. I guess he doesn't sell typewriters.

Should be pretty old. I consider it in very good condition. Value?
