The 15 year old should be prosecuted. It's too bad the officer wasn't wearing his seat belt.
Whats good for anybody else would have probably saved his life.

It's a sad fact that so many off duty officers die needlessly in crashes because they aren't wearing seat belts. Unfortunately a lot of young rookie cops are taught right away by "old salts" that they can save half a second getting out of their cars in a hurry by not wearing seat belts. Even though many of these young officers know that saving a half second isn't worth losing their life in an accident still want to please their training officer so against their better judgement they join the group of officers that don't wear seat belts. Some revert back to the safer practice of wearing the belts after they've completed training, but some don't.

So the off-duty officer rammed a completely stopped vehicle. Though the deaths were terrible it seems that his was preventable had he been alert and/or wearing his seatbelt.

Pedro Goldstein, you're wrong. It was not necessarily HIS FAULT period. A disabled vehicle in the fast lane, especially if it has been damaged and is blacked out with no lights can be almost impossible for someone to see. A person can be driving the speed limit, completely sober and not see it until it's too late. It has hapened countless times to people.

If the occupants of the crashed vehicle had put out flares it could have averted a tragedy. But unfortunately most people, including myself don't always carry flares in our vehicle like we should.

sad but true.. but yet, if the 15 yr old illegal driver wouldent have been driving in the first place, crashing, causing the car to stall.. this could have all been avoided.. ultimatly, the 15 yr old has a lot of blame on his shoulders.. families are now shattered because of a teenage know it all mind.. maybe if he wasnt there, and if it is true that the officer was driving while tired, he would have had a solo crash, and nobody else would have been affected.. i was saddened today to find out that Officer Valderama is my cousins brother in law, and at one point, I had knew him, before he was an officer, I do know his wife, and i can only imagine the pain she is feeling.. this would have all been avoided if the kid was not behind the wheel.. or we can look at it as everyone's destiny is chosen, and irregardless of the situation, it was both their time to go.. prayers for all of them

Why don't you go back to school and learn how to write proper English. His family was from the Philipines, this is a good time for them to pack up and go back. The cat population in Montclair would be safe at least.
if you knew him so well you jack ass, you would know that his family is mexican.. kind of like your fake first name..i know his family..and they are great people, and if you have any issues with him, most likely its because your stupid ass gets in trouble with the law.. its only assholes like you that dont like cops. Pedro... if you were actually a co-worker as you claim, you've provided ample evidence that your agency made a wise decision in either firing you and/or passing you up for promotion. You are an insensitive, heartless person.

Is it not obvious to you, there are family/friends of the deceased that view this sight... I wouldn't wish this tragic event on anyone (including the 15 y/o and his family), yet you choose to make comments that are extremely hurtful, and lack any amount of human compassion (for the living or dead).

I agree with the previous post, your sick and better get your act together before you meet your maker!

My prayers go out to all the familes involved in this horrific accident.

Thanks Hugh. I heard that he got in trouble in the 1980s trying to pick up teenaged boys in the Bel Air car on Santa Monica Blvd. Any truth to that rumor?
