I hace been having a hard time this past winter with may things. The first one was assistance to heat my home. my family of four falls just above the guidelines for recieving any assistance. my husband makes a fair gross income but i on the other hand only take home 7000.00 a year. We are not eligible for anything. gross income has nothing to do with what is actually taken home and add that to the rising cost of gas, food and oil which i heat my home with we have nothing. I had to struggle every month and a half this winter to come up with 300.00 or more for heat. our children 8yrs and 1 yr are not protected like many other families. i am a 20 hr a week student as well as i work 20 hours a week and just figured that obviously i need to work more because we arent making enough to pay for our mortgage, and utilities as well as grocerys for the month etc. however there are many programs that allow people to go to work by providing daycare to low income families. my complaint is that again I do not qualifie for these wonderful educational programs for my children that our tax dollars are being used for and i feel that I can not do better for my family because i take home 160.00 a week and daycare cost way more than that. My problem is that i dont understand why so much more tax dollars are taken out of peoples paychecks that get paid more, and work hard to support their children but we dont ever get to benefit from anyof this. we are in need too because we do have financial hardships just like everyone else. i see the sign for joe 4 oil that says no one should be left out in the cold, but i was having panic attacks this winter when it was 3 degrees and i had applied for the one time home heating assistance for people like my family that dont qualify for anything else and was turned away again by them saying there were no more funds left to give. i applied on dec.5th. my children would have been left out in the cold if i hadnt used part of my mortgage money to get the heat , thus putting my mortgage into default that i couldnt catc up on for the next three months. who knows where I can get help? I need to work more hours to keep up with this economy but cant get any help. am i supposed to divorse my husband just to make sure that my children wil live comfortably. what are our tax dollars being used for because everyone elses families seem to be benefiting. my husband was laid off this year for a month from dec. 19th -jan 15th . during that time we struggled so badly but because the people go by yearly income there was no help. so scared since therre is no help available to families like ares. when you are a single mom which i was once, it is scary to be in this situation but it helps to know that there are people out there who care and programs to help. when you are a couple working together to survive and something goes wrong it is a thousand times scarier to me because when thing s are at its worst there is no one there to help . you d o have each other but that wont help you from losing your home.
