"California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Reyes said officers still don't know why Maxwell drove off the road. So far, there is no evidence to suggest he was driving too fast, Reyes said.

Officials said the spot where the man went over frequently has similar mishaps. "

from the pic- it appears they sprayed orange markings on the vehicle---- probably to help the pilot hover over the site....

Also- if he had a GM- with Onstar- and his bags deployed- they would have noticed the air bags went off-- and notified authorities (and the driver) to check on him.

Why didn't the Agency handling think about calling LA Co Fire Helicopters. LA Co FD Helicopter Pilots and Paramedics train for this by using night vivsion equipmnet. I have been taking photos of them and their training. WHY was a 74 yr old man left to lie in his vehicle until after daylight. LA City and LA Co Fire Department helicopters train for this. I respect LASD's mission, but that man could have died. I thought all Emergency Agencies were to work together.

I wonder if he had a good night sleep. lol Did the ditch bugs bite? lol j/k
But to the "friend of helicopters" from Pomona, I dont remember seeing anywhere in the article any mention of the authorities being aware of him being down there at night, Im sure they would of done something immediately.

I made the statement because the LA Co Fire Helicopters make area checks and attempts to locate when some one (especially one of us older members of society) is missing. They had an idea where he went and a helicopter with night vision googles would have seen some heat indications (maybe). I think our County is the best equipped County and I beleive Emergency Crews should share information, especially if it could save a life or locate a missing person.

Pancho,
Why make those kinds of comments? Phil is a friend, he comes up each weekend to visit and eat at the cafe on East Fork. You should be so active at 74.(Not everyone is old at 74!) Hmmmmm, the vehicle was a Subaru Forester, not quite an SUV as reported. I'm sure that they will find that he was forced off the road by either two vehicles passing or one of the many road racers we are forced to deal with on this road. Phil doesn't drive fast. People should not assume anything or make comments such as Pancho did.

Pancho- will not be alive at 74-- he lives such a sedentary life- that hell be obese at 60 and dead at 65....

Pancho you are an idiot and should not be commenting on things you know nothing about. Be considerate of his family. why don't you go find yourself a hobby and stop making an ass out of yourself!

I'll bet you're correct. Most life insurance policies exclude suicide. He was probably trying to make it look like an accident. Who would guess that you could survive driving off a 125 foot cliff?
