Now is time to start identifying the crabgrass of liberalism, and not pretending it's not there, and pull it up by the roots.

I personally do not drink, but I support a liquor store in Marshville. People are going to drink no matter where the store is.
Is it not better that the liquor store be within walking distance or at least a block or two away instead of several miles away where they must get in their car and try to navigate their way to and back from the store without killing someone. I do not agree with drinking and driving. I do not agree with someone disregarding someone's life just to get to the liquor store. BUT, they are going to do it. Maybe, just maybe, they will reconsider getting behind the wheel and will walk the few blocks to get what they want and someone else will be able to arrive home safe that day.

I didn't get to vote since I live "in the country" outside the town limits. Actaully I am much closer to Wingate than Marshville but I do my business and know more people in Marshville. I knew the ABC store would pass. Very few people came out against it. Even the preachers who fought it so hard last time didn't say much. I figured Dora was gone. She didn't do much and was kind of stand offish. Virginia had a lot of support all over, business and residents, black and white. She should be good for the town and she has experience. Jim should hit the ground running. He really wants to see the town improve. He's a good person and will work hard I believe. If he minds his manners and does a good job there should be a good future in store for him. i told him he should make friends with Edmiston and get his name in a positive light in every issue of the home he can. I think this will be Frank's last roundup as mayor. At one time he had his eye on going to Raleigh to represent in the state house but now I'm not so sure. The Union County Democrats Party would like for him to do it but he knows it would be an uphill fight. He shot himself in the foot by saying he supported Obama's abortion policy and church people remember that. I think with Frank it's like a lot of black people. They don't necessarily agree with Obama but they want to support blacks.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen and Marshville townsfolk for tolerating my writing on this forum. Certainly, in a store or business I would speak cordially in person to you, as I know most of you would do me. Regards.
I simply had to do my part against this kooky, absurd, and blatant silliness that infects this country. It comes at me from the left. What's this gay bit that the AP is obsessed with? That irks me most of all. If you don't love your wife or husband enough to know what your marriage is, and then go vote for the lunatics of the left,.... well, I just don't see it. And that's just one of their wingnut gigs. I could go on.
In closing, I recall eloquent words once, uttered by Gubernatorial Candidate Fern Schubert: "I always thought if you were a conservative Democrat, then you were a Republican". Thanks, folks.

There won't be a liquor store in Marshville. It is futile, too close to Wingate. It just rode along with the LBD referendum.

However, folks, Dora is demanding a recount. Hold on to your hats, it ain't over until the fat lady sings!

If Richard Nixon had demanded a re-count in 1960, and they threw out the votes of the cemetery residents in Chicago, we wouldn't be having these problems today. How long is it going to take to re-count the votes in Marshville--5 minutes? Give her her recount and hold the door for her. Never let it be said it banged her on the backside.

Well I attended the town meeting last night after many months staying away to take a look and see how things would go after the town hired a young, inexperienced woman as the manager. I got a feeling this new make-up of council has many questions for her. Just as expected, she has become the center of attention, and not due to her good looks. I had heard the town was looking for change after most had figured "she just wasn't the manager material we needed". Since she has been in town we have raised taxes, raised water bills by 30%, raised trash fees, raised, raised, raised. When will it stop? The Home News reported that the new council has received numerous letters from citizens and employees asking for relief from this managers actions and I think they will get results from this new council. Marshville citizens can not afford this manager much longer and I believe the "new big guy" is putting the brakes on this train wreck. Thank you Big Jim!

Was there anything at the town meeting about the police department holding illegal ticket writing contests? Supposedly, Chief Webber was rewarding officers who wrote the most tickets in a month with gift cards. That's a felony by state law and a violation of federal law. I heard it was supposed to come up last night, just curious.

Heard the new council was fixin to clip her wings a bit. She just made too many changes in such a short time, some good and some bad. She is young, inexperienced, and got a big ego, but let us remember all was done with council approval. She did nothing without them saying it was ok. Some blame has to go to the former council members that allowed it to happen, and thank God they were voted out. Hope this new council tightens the reigns and reminds her who is in charge. Read that Jim and Ms. Morgan favor going back to administrator form on governance. I believe C. Weber was the last one in that position and remember he did a wonderful job. Got along well with the people and employees, cant remember any issues. Maybe that is the way to go because the town has been through 4 managers in 4 years. Must tell you something. I think we have a good council now that can take us into the future, a good police department that protects and serves us exceptionally well, and all in all a well rounded and skilled group of worker bees as a supporting cast. The last thing we need is drama, remember the days of the "Gailimo" and our favorite daughter Ms. Whitley? Lets take care of business and move forward. I ask this council to make the decision that has to be made and put this train "all ahead full".

Carl Weber is just an all-around good guy. I liked Chief Gaddy too. But if he had to retire, I couldn't think of a better replacement than Carl. Like I said about Mike--he was Andy Taylor if you let him be, and Marshal Dillon if you wanted to make it that way.
Thank You Town Council

I am glad we FINALLY have a great town council that will stand up for the Marshville Citizens. They at least have a backbone and will do what is right. I am now proud to be a citizen of Marshville. Thank you Norma Carpenter, Jim Rowell and Mrs. Morgan for all you will do in the future for "ALL OF US" in Marshville!!!! Maybe the mistakes that were made in the past will be corrected such as the "TOWN MANAGER and THE MAYOR" who only look out for their own agendas not ours. One example is the Hasty Road "Home for troubled youth". Right, it is a kiddy prison with mean kids that need supervision or they would hurt themselves or someone else! Would you want this beside your home with your children playing outside? I don't think so. Look to the FUTURE!!!
Think about it Marshville Citizens, "Thank about it". Really?????????

Agree w/ all of the above, and would like to add that the council needs to step up and give direction to the manager in the way the citizens want to go, not the mayors way. They need to learn to use the people they have and form a working relationship without always replacing them. Look at the bad publicity Monroe is getting at this moment for terminating their manager without cause. Do we want this cloud as well? We should work w/ what we have make it work. She is a prime candidate for molding and forming into the manager they desire. They just need to separate today from yesterday, forget the misguiding of the past council and head for progress as a new team.

I hear they are moving dirt for the detention facility down on Hasty Road. I may mosey out that way today to see if it is true. So much of what "goes around" in Marshville is not true, or half true, so always like to check it out for myself and verify the facts. I hope the new council can move the town forward. I hope the employees can be released from this fearful environment they are working in. The annexation process for this facility was so freaking crooked, it makes me sick. Good thing there has been a change of faces on that council. Now I hope you people, citizens and voters realize how important each and every vote is in a town this small. Two votes made a HUGE difference.
