Tolls will be on all of Monroe Bypass

Drivers will pay tolls to travel all 21 miles of the proposed Monroe Connector/Bypass, a regional planning group has decided. State officials say placing tolls on the eastern and western halves of the long-delayed road would allow it to be built quicker and cheaper. The project still needs the approval of federal road and environmental authorities. Specific toll fees haven't been set, an engineer on the project said earlier this month. But the average toll nationally is between 10 and 15 cents per mile. Read more

You already pay a road tax through the license fees and fuel taxes,now a tax to ride on a certain road,wow...You call that taxation without representation,am I right? Triple tax..How about that..JMO...

You know it has to be a toll road because I am sure all the money that was allocated for this project has already been stolen and put into some local politician(s) hand(s). What else could be the reason for this nonsense. People better wake up and check out these candidates before election. Oh, I forgot they're all crooks so it really doesn't matter who you vote for. None of these folks have ever done any favors for me. Only higher and more taxes in some form or fashion.

We have one of the highest fuel taxes in the nation, and that's not enough to build the bypass?? Yet some how we have the means to go 7 billion over budget on mass transit plan that can't even pay for itself.

Never mind the cost. Send me a bill but has anyone even considered the traffic this will cause. I lived on LI NY for most of my life. They made the same mistakes with the tolls. You canot get on or off the Island due to the traffic these tolls create. I am not joking when I it takes over an hour to sit in line to get over the GW Bridge. And Easy Pass just causes accidents as holders and non holders scramble to get into the correct lane to handle their situation. This is a huge mistake. It is watching NY start all over again with an insight as to what will happen.

The famouse city road rage is about to hit the charlotte area. Nothing stresses a driver out more than to sit in traffic just to have someone stick their hand in your wallet.

This is yet another ploy for "smart growth" by the officials that were just reelected in Monroe. They see the bypass hurting commerce in the area. Placing a toll on the road will push some thrifty drivers to bypass the bypass by taking the current red-light-madness route on 74.

Anybody seen any "Slower Traffic Keep Right" signs in about 15 years? "Smart growth" at its best.!@#$%^&*

If we focus our efforts in the wrong direction, we'll never get this fixed. I don't think there are a whole lot of yankees in our state legislature. But there are plenty of crooked politicians burning up our road money on things other than roads.

It's time for a power shift in Raleigh.

Folks, didn't the civil war end over a century ago? You should really step back and listen to yourselves. I am truly amazed at the prejudist sterio typical comments I am reading here. Life is not black and white! There are many shades of grey in between. In case you need it further spelled out to you. Everyone is individual and to make prejudist remarks about people based on location, race, religeon etc... shows the amount of lack of intellegence that goes on EVERYWHERE! It is this mindset that keeps giving us the same liberals in Raleigh and in local govts throughout the State, while many of those that voted for them continue complain about the results and lay blaim where it doesn't belong.
