I would like to see what everyone else thinks about the upcoming Sheriff's Election Between incumbant Joe Chapman and Al Yarbrough. I Personally think that AL is the best man for the job.

I think Joe Chapman has done an outstanding job as Sheriff of Walton County and has brought a level of professionalism and integrity to the office that it certainly needed. He is innovative and understands the needs of the people and our county. He is best person to lead Walton County through the changes that it will see in the coming years.

i guess what you are trying to say is that threatening your employee's and treating them like a piece of crap is professionalism and integrity. i think integrity defined by sheriff chapman is having bruce wright out in the county's vehicle hanging election signs in loganville. bta you don't know what you are talking about. yep saw it with my own two eyes.

So Joe going to the golf course all the time and drinking beer makes him a outstanding man. He is at top of the list of being and outstanding guy...NOT. A man that does not even know what is going on in is on department. they have a back log of over 1000's of warrants. DUI's are down. His department is getting only a lil over 120 a year compared to the previous sheriff who was getting over 370 a year. Man what is this department doing. The closed door policy he has, whats up with that. The citizens, much less the deputies can get into seeing him or finding him. Over a 100 deputies have left during his 3 1/2 year term. Why such a large turn over?

Joe is so in over his head.He has lost the departments State accredidation, has lost over a hundred deputies, dui arrests are one third of what Als were.Scandals in the jail,no k-9 units a backlog of criminal warrants, major paid for senior programs yanked. He is a good golfer though, works on his game everyday.Making vast improvements on his handicap looking for a hole-in-one in his future!

I am a little shocked to see so many people talking about the kind of things i thought were limited to me , we have been advised by a council person to contact the ( GBI ) he has deputies withholding info from the judge to change the out come of his choice's , this county seems to be lead by a group who value ( what they can get ) more than the people they are sworn to protect and respect , and the one thing they deny the most , they are the people who work to pay the TAX'S that fund this fine county !
we are forced to pay for a county office that the wood and fixtures in the bath rooms are nicer than a lot of this county’s homes .. the BLG is half empty and wile we are told to turn down are air and heat . I know all of this is not big Joe’s fault but what has the MOST HONEST MAN IN THE COUNTY DONE TO CHANGE ANYTHING )??
ISNT THE ( SHERIFFS JOB ) SPOSSED TO BE THE MOST HONEST AND UPSTANDING OFFISER ON THE FORCE ????
WERENT WE TOUGHT THAT IN K-1

As a Walton Citizen I am concerned that Bruce Wright who is Joe's right hand man is committing
adultery with a woman who is on Joe's campaign committee and Bruce is considering leaving his wife and children..what kind of ethics and morals
does this say about our sheriffs department... and
what about this cabin they have that they go to
and drink and gamble...and who took the pictures
of Joe drunk and driving and the county offices
caught him and took him home...what is going on
in Walton County... Maybe Al would be someone to
consider being that there is no one else...it is
a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils.

REPLY Are we discussing Joe or Bruce ? It sounds like they are both in way over their heads. One is a drunk and the other is committing aldultery. Come on people; Stand up for your yourselves. Do you really want these kind of people in office? Where's the mayor and the judges and the district attorney stand? Preachers and the christain community and common decent people need to take a firm stand and pray together for your small town.

wow. I went to the Crepe Myrtle festival yesterday and I looked down at Joe Chapman's Campaign Booth. I was stunned when I noticed several walton county sheriff's department cars, the dui trailer and a sheriff's department pickup truck at his campaign tent. What a waste of taxpayers money. This guy thinks he can do whatever he wants.

I agree with all who say Al Yarbrough is the best man for the job. I'm a former deputy who worked for both of them and my choice is Al Yarbrough all they way! Hey these stories about Joe and Bruce are new to my ears. If they're true it makes me even madder that I was called on the carpet for what was termed as "time unaccounted for with the 911 center" when I was out of radio range transporting inmates. That's the pot calling the kettle black, huh?

It now appears to me that other citizens "are waking up" to the fact that Walton County Law Enforcement has digressed in quality, quantity, and effectiveness over the past three years. We now have a Sheriff that knows nothing about "true law enforcement" and refuses to engage with local citizens. Read the links on " Loganvilleonline.com " in political discussions.

There are 43 pages that "detail" such shenanigans with our current administration and it may shock you to understand what our local Sheriff's Office has been up in the past few years. Informed people vote wisely and I appreciate the "concern" that I see expressed here on this website.

As a "retired law enforcement officer" from another county, I am shocked at the level of performance we now have in our local Sheriff's Office. Vote wisely my friends, your future "safety" depends solely on how you read the character of each candidate, their experience in doing such a job, their commitment to the cause, their timely response to citizens, and their respective "statistics" in crime abatement. Given the "big picture" in this matter, your vote will go the "best qualified man."

The Atlanta "metro region" is growing exponentially and we are "next in the criminal's line of sight." Do we want a politician in office or a real Sheriff (33 years of enforcement in Walton County) that cares about our community. It is only your decision to make.

Neverknow
I have been doing a lot of research over the last few months and have found that a lot stuff that has been posted on this board and other boards has come to be the truth. Some may be gossip but most of it is true. Even some of the gossip has been found to be true. I do agree that somethings about personal lives should not be posted just the facts to the race itself. There is a lot of problems within the Sheriff's Department that needs to be addressed and corrected before it is too late. I know now that Al Yarbrough can fix the problems and make Walton County safe for you your family and me. I just hope everyone does some research on their own and vote the right way so we can be safe again in our home and highways.

Thank you, neverknow, for finally saying what needed to be said!! And thank you Time for a change for saying that it needs to be kept at a professional level regarding the department and spreading lies and rumors about the personal lives of two good men is completely unnecessary especially when I can 99% guarantee that Walton Citizen has NO idea what they are talking about. It's sad to read these message boards and have flashbacks from being 13 again!!

I would have to agree completely with Time for a Change. I have a friend in the Walton County Jail that is awaiting trial and the things that I have personally experienced visiting and what I have heard from him, the jail is where Joe Chapman is lacking the most. I have witnessed officers chewing tobacco, coming into work hungover, and every time I am there the rules on visiting seem to change. My friend has told me that guards have come into work drunk, that inmates with health issues are being denied their prescribed medications, and that some are even denied rec time for weeks on end. My state law all inmates are required to have at least 1 hour a week of outside rec for health issues, my friend hasn't seen the sun for over 3 months now. I have even born witness to work release inmates walking around Monroe without police escort. In the months that my friend has spent there he has not once seen the good sheriff Joe Chapman, in his own jail. I am voting for Al and believe with all my heart and mind that he is without a doubt the best man for the job. It is time for a change in this darkened county of ours.
