Hey what about the Liberty Bakery at 8th and Ash.
Like you I loved Gem City ice cream. I liked the White house flavor (red cherries mixed in)<quoted text>
I remember some kind of store there, where we could buy candy and chips ect.. but not sure of a bakery. I also remember that corner being a pottery shop. You could buy greenware, paint it, take it back and they would fire it for you.(crafts). Dan's deli on 10th & ash?? Port-a-pool at Penn school? Stan's Dinor, Blue Ribbon Market, Richard's Holiday Shop,D'Angelo's TV, Alexander's Drug Store, "Old" Julio's? Boy-- I havn't thought of those places in years. Started thinking and one lead to another ect...

Going to McDonald's doesn't age you, but if you remember going to Red Barn...then you probably have gray hair.

I can't remember a burger place other then Burger King on Nagle & Buffalo, but do you remember when Arthur Treachers was in the Eastway Plaza? I always thought Dahlkemper's was so cool, the way you filled out the little clipboard and sent it to the back and waited for your stuff!
There was a Carrolls burger joint out on Buffalo Road back in the 70's. There was one on 21st and State too.

Dahlkempers also had a store in the Eastway plaza.

How about parties at Kingtown (foot of Pennsylvania Avenue)?
The old Mehler 7-up building on McClelland (site of more parties).

The Central Mall (18th & Peach) had JC Penneys and a Scotts 5 and 10. I know there were more stores in there, but can't quite remember what they were.

Zehe's bakery, with their "salt sticks" (breadsticks with caraway seeds and salt)

Mighty Fine donuts available everywhere.

Super Duper grocery stores

Torching a car (Rambler) at football rallies when we were going to play Prep?

When the big thing to do on the weekend was go to your high school football game? And the games were packed for all the schools, not just the Prep-McDowell game?

When "the stadium" had the walkway around the top, not in the middle?

High school homerooms taking collections to "buy a seat" in the new stadium?(I think we were supposed to have our name on it somewhere!)

I wanna go back.

Boy, do I remember "The Central Mall", Sears where the ballfield is now. Super Duper, another place I've not thought about. Sat there at the counter many hours over the years while mom was shopping, w/ hot chocolate & doughnuts. How about Maxwells movie "theater" in Grandview plaza, Carlisle's 9th & Peach. Anyone remember the Smorgasboard in the Mlcrk. Mall where Ruby 's is now? There were a couple but I can't remember their names. Esp. the 1st one. Mom took me there every chance she could. It was different than the typical smorg. The way you ordered & stuff, hard to remember. "Old-timers Disease". We loved Panos' too. 38th & Davison. Right Before Mt. Carmel dances.

Wow. Just discovered this site and read it all. Thanks for the memories. I do remember Jack Frost Donuts, 5 cent pistachio ice cream cones from Gem City Ice Cream on E. 8th, the Farmers Market at 15th & State under the bridge (my grandmother took me there when I was little), the wonderful Pulakos chocolate holiday displays (I devoured them with my eyes, nose to glass), absolutely everything about the wonderful Boston Store, Kresge's, the aroma of freshly roasted nuts wafting out to passersby on State Street, and so much more. One can't help but notice how many of these memories are food-related! How about the greek hot dogs from New York Lunch?

The "wild animals" upstairs from the dairy on E. 18th Street were trophies bagged by Mr. Brock, the dairy owner, on safari and other hunting trips. My elementary school (Penn) took a field trip there and we saw banana popsicles being made. We also saw locomotives being made at G.E. Fabulous!

I left Erie in 1962. A few years ago I realized what a wonderful place it is and now I visit Erie several times a week in my mind. Thank goodness for the internet. I think thousands of us are nostalgic for Erie. Such a special place. Thanks for sharing, everyone.

I'm too young for Pappy. However, if you go to the Park Tavern, on the westside wall by the 2nd booth there is an autographed pic of him

I remember seeing a restraunt called MacBeths. For some reason I thought it was on Buffalo Road in Harborcreek (where the Emergicare is now) to the east of Wendys. Was there one over on the westside too? I just remember seeing the sign and I think it had a girl with long hair on it and I wanna say the letter were a teal color. Anyone ever hear of or remember that or is it time for me to return to North Warren??

I remember MacBeths, but can't remember where it was.

Remember the one on 18th between Peach and Sass, where there were phones on each table and you could call to other tables to get acquainted? Can't remember the name of that one either!! Would have been in the late 70's or early 80's

Remember McCrory's in the millcreek mall? All the fish and birds in the back and some type of restrant in the front. Anybody remember where the individual juke boxes were? They had a knob on the side to "turn the pages". I remember sitting in a booth and each table had one, just don't know where. "Twin Kiss" on buffalo rd. Had the creamiest soft serve ice cream.

I remember McCrorys being so disorganized and a mess. But I do remember all the animals and stuff too. I must be getting old.

Wasn't it Carroll's? Had Orange going all the way around the top? My sister used to take me there when I was little. I think there was one on State Street too - between 21st +???. May be a car dealer there now - Hallman, perhaps.
