What a wonderful profession Ms Smith chose for her life's work. As an educator, especially of elementary school-age children, she certainly touched many lives for the better. In her career, she made a huge difference in the world. We should all remember that it's not what we take when we leave this world - it's what we leave behind. She's left a legacy and a gift that will flourish in the children she taught over her career. Thanks so much for sharing your time with us....may you now find eternal comfort in His arms.

I have always said to anyone that would listen that if you keep putting off taking those trips you always promised to make when you retired you wouldn't perhaps ever get to make them at all. More than one retiree where I worked and retired from died before they got to do a damned thing. Tragic. All that savings and planning and for zero, zip, nada. Go while you still can see, hear, walk, talk, enjoy and appreciate.

Take time to enjoy life while you can. This is not the dress rehearsal, this is it. Retire as early as you can afford to and enjoy what time you have.
My condolences to her family.

This is very sad. At least she was doing something she obviouslly enjoyed. 57 is just too young to die.

It appears that is exactly what she was trying to do, and was rewarded with death anyway.
The lot of you making these ridiculous statements make me sick. What a vile collection you are.
So Sorry

That's freakin terrible! That's always a concern when you retire that you won't live to enjoy it. I'm retiring next year with 36 yrs and i'm 60, i'll be 61 when i retire and 1 yr from SS.
I don't want to die and not collect a penny from those bastards!

Enjoy your life to the fullest everyday cause the Grim Reaper has a nasty sense of Humuor.
People get a checkup every year before you retire.
And be carefull crossing the street.

It sounds like she enjoyed her career, made a difference in many student's lives over the years.
What an inspiration.
To the naysayers encouraging early retirement. It's not everyone wants to do.
Being a part of the process, feeling needed, making a difference- this is what many people get up in the morning for.
Traveling may not be their dream.
If it IS something you dream about, take vacations and do it before you retire.

My condolences to this dedicated teacher's family and God rest her soul.

She died without one day of retirement and to enjoy the things we all work so hard for. Bieng a teacher is very difficult these days and stressfull.
I'm sure she would have loved to have been home enjoying the remainder of her life without kids driving her nuts.
She has peace at last, but unfortunately in the wrong place. I feel very sorry for this lady who had to put up with alot of crap bieng a teacher only to croak.

That is just so sad.... You work your butt off all your adult life to finally get that retirement and new beginning then you don't get it... I'm a fireman and have so many friends that shortly after they retired passed away.... I'm glad our state passed an earlier retirement age for employees with state pensions so we can enjoy a few years for what we worked for....
