My children attended Geneseo Schools and my Grandchildren attend Geneseo school. With all of the wars, crimes, rapes, and other bad news we have to endure in these times, why would we want to take away a Halloween Party or Christmas party from our children. We are the parents and grandparents of the children of today. Don't you think we know what is best for our children? We certainly want to keep the bad news away from these precious children, until they have to know about this world. A piece of candy, a costume? What is the harm. Take yourself back to when you were a child and remember the good times we had. The school district needs to focus on more important matters in there day, besides a piece of candy.

Thats why my kids go to a private Christian school. They're smarter, morale and have a good base. Look what the Liberal society is becoming. Watch the news, read the papers!

I totally agree, Linda!!! It has become the "norm" of society and its something that we shouldn't just sit and watch happen...not anymore!!! One of the principles told me it was the vocal minority that we hear from and those are the ones that get listened to. Why???? We do want to resect those that choose not to celebrate Christmas...but what about those that do...and, there are LOTS more that do! Thanks Robert, I agree and that will happen, I'm sure!

Pathetic. Time for elections and the elimination of School Board. The is the only "political correctness" we need as a society.

I think this is a great idea! the school is making the right decision because school is about education, not running around and wasting a school day on a holiday.

Nicole...they're still having parties...just not naming them after a holiday! A day will still be spent with a party!! I agree RHMurdock, something needs to change!!

I am glad there is a story on this issue! I feel very strongly that this needs to be up for a vote. "Christmas" parties have been around for so many years, it is part of our culture! Why is it in today's society the minority vote usually wins? I think Christians need to stand up for what we believe in! Just the thought that "In God we trust" would be changed makes me so sad. This is our American History. What would our four fathers say if they heard this? We can't change what our counrty is founded on. For those who care about this country and want what is best for our community, something has to be said to emphasize the importance of this issue. Christmas should not be changed for anyone or any reason!

What a crock! I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. If parents dont want them attending a Christmas Party or Halloween Party, then pick them up from school early that day just before the party starts. Why make the majority of the kids suffer just because of a few? Also, why aren't the parents having a say in this?

I can't believe this, they aren't thinking of the kids what they want. This superintendent and a few parents are only thinking of what they think is correct. When my kids were young in school they looked forward to these parties to celebrate holidays. They work hard in their studies and look forward to parties to celebrate the holidays and the hard work. Think when you were in school as a young child, didn't you enjoy the holidays and parties in school? It should be up to the child's parents if they want them at the parties. Send them kids to the gym and let them study while the parties are going on. I bet most of them kids would rather be parting with their class. What is wrong with these grown-ups? Don't they think about the children. Thats what is important. Let them grow while they're young, let them have fun. Remember you were young once.

I believe the same that the last few have mentioned. Why are we changing things for a few people, our schools have hundreds. What are the rest of us, chopped liver??? The school board listens to the few parents that are against the celebration, but can't and won't take the time to listen to the parents and community on the other side. It is a crock and its about time that something is being done about this!! We do need a voice and we do need to be heard.

What are they going to tell the students at the winter party when gifts are still exchanged? We're celebrating cold weather? If we lie down for this we will not be able to stand for an even bigger issue. We start the day off with the pledge, but we can't mention God any other time? I don't want anybody picking and choosing for me and my kids when God can be involved and when He can't. We are NOT heading in the right direction by taking God out of school, thats when the trouble starts. Remember "God Bless America"??!

What bothers me most about all of this is that the decision has been made without asking the parents of the children that attend this school how they feel about it. I pray the school officials listen to the people who are opposed to this decision and reverse the direction they have taken. I have yet to see a child leave my children's classroom because they are uncomfortable celebrating Halloween or Christmas. They eat the candy and cupcakes just as quickly as the rest of them. What if all the Christians decide to walk out of the parties because we aren't comfortable celebrating the holiday without the real meaning behind it?

When are we going to stop caving in to the minority. We all grew up having Halloween and Christmas parties. This is part of the American culture, don't let the minority groups who want to change our country get away with this. If they don't like it, then they shall not participate. No one is forcing them to. Grow a backbone Geneseo board and stand up to them and don't you dare blame it on fanancial problems with families. Christmas is not about how many presents you give/gave.
