What an incitefull Judge. He certainly took the right tack in this case. It is just too bad that we will never know who it was so he/she could be voted out of office. D.C.F.S. seems to take a lot of heat over the years but it appears that they got it right this time. I certainly hope for the sake of the surviving children that they are immediatly placed elswhere.

luke who are you to sit here and judge a person you dont know based on what you read in the news? like the news ever worries abotu telling the whole story?

DCFS was making regular visits. last one being the day before the baby died. So if something bad was going on after all them visits do you think the mother would still have the baby?

The article clearly states foul play WASNT a factor and that the baby appeared to be accidently smothered while sleeping WITH his mother.

Have some respect for a grieving mom who did no wrong in this situation and that judge did make the right choice in allowing a new born baby to stay with its mother. you dont know what it does to new borns to be taken away from the one that they know is their mommy so early in life.

dcfs is a joke dorey has been through parenting classes everyone knows that you do not sleep with an infant in your bed period and that point is stressed in parenting. how much damage was done to this baby by staying with his mother??? hmmm she did do wrong she disregarded what she has been told not to do sleep with your infant that is neglectful. like her mother no malice intended just lacks the ability to think past the moment. and that gets kids killed.

Mothers do not sleep with babies on the couch, its not safe. because the BABY COULD DIE!!!!! any idiot could figure that one out... It is the courts fault, if the baby had been place outside of that breeding ground it would still be alive!

Why does this update not surprise me, you are not going to tell me that when DCFS went to that trailer it appeared fit living conditions with all of those people living there. It still appalls me that the grandmother's case was tossed out when she left her kids in the car that cost her little boys life. I don't know why these judges think that these parents' have rights when something like this happens...what about the childrens' rights? These little boys' are in heaven now with God & all of his angels but that still doesn't excuse the fact that these women, not moms' failed their children & allowed them to die. I too agree with the gal from Rockford who asked how the mother could be on here reading & commenting on all of this if she is grieving the loss of her child. It sounds as though this Cassandra should have never been allowed to keep any of her children & that money got her just a slap on the hands.

Really, Sunrise- and I suppose if you were in there shoes you would have taken protective custody? Based on what?

Rural,

You can't take protective custody based on how many kids are in a residence and you have to show an "imminent risk of harm". You also can't take protective custody for families who are homeless or, for example, living in a car.

14 kids?!?! Even if two of them are already dead, who is paying for those 12 other kid's healthcare, education, food and necessities? The taxpayers! Seriously, this is why there is free birth control in Illinois.

In respone to Jeremy, I thank God everyday that the authorities took me and my two brothers away from my birth mother. My brothers were taken before they were abused: however, I wasn't so lucky. By the time they took me away from her, I had a broken hip, severe head injuries, many bruises and a fractured wrist. That's how my birth mother and father (under 13 years old) treated me. I was 6 weeks old.

That just makes me sick being a mother myself how could you put your child in situations like that . Having a child is blessing a gift . I cherish every minute i have with my kids they mean the world to me. Someone like this , a family like this doesnt deserve the privilege of having kids. The kids should have been taken away along time ago from this family so that things like this wont happen . If there were signs of neglect in the beggining then thats when the child should have been taken away i think that we need better people in the child services maybe that baby would still be here . How about a better justice system . Throwing out convition were a child dies over a mothers stupidy doesnt seem right to me and im sorry but if you have to have DCFS at your door a few days after your sons born something wrong . People need to start doing thier jobs properly and things like this wont happen. i have seen this family at a couple different locations and i can tell you from sight that they didnt deserve thier children

Im sorry a grieving mother and mother who accidently smothers her baby in the same sentence doesnt make sense your mother you ought to know better then to have your 4 month old baby on the couch for one , and to be sleeping with your infant come on now get some common sense

I think that it is time to let this little baby rest in peace. We have all vented on this situation & have all had very good opinions but it is not going to bring him back. All that we can do now is pray that the children who are left behind in this family can get the help that they deserve to deal with this tragedy. Hopefully now the justice system will see that there is no hope for these kids as long as they are in this Bacon's care.

This person is no different then a HOOKER! She might not get paid by the "johns" that sleep whith her nasty self but the state is paying her to BREED! Welfare is NOT a career! 14 FREAKING KIDS?!?!

They are both a disgrace and deserve to die a horrible and painful death. These poor babies cant choose their mothers because if they could then lord knows they wouldn't have chosen one of these scum bags!

One left a baby in a car to go shopping at Kmart, One slept with an infant and smothered it... MURDER!!! Thats what it is... plain and simple! Two scum bags getting away with MURDER!

My bad... I thought letting a infant stay in the same trailer as the piece of trash that already murdered one child would constiture "imminent risk of harm" even if it did get thrown out on a technacality.

Burn these trailer park trash hookers at the stake!

Just look at the windows of this trailer I can only imagine what the inside looks like. Now there's another dead infant and the ones to blame are DCFS, the court system, the judge, the mother, the grandmother, the list is endless.
