Anybody out there disappointed about the historical landmark designation being stripped from the villa de chantal in rock island. What a shame. I still can't believe that the school will soon be gone. The least the school district could do is keep lewis hall and build around it to keep the historical value of the property visible. I guess the saying "nothing is forever" is applicable here.

I agree, that place is amazing. infact right now i am doing a Urban Legends paper about is being haunted. I have been there with friends late a night to look around and it is amazing, i wish i could of saw it in it's original form in 1901. It may be terrible to say but that place looks SOO cool because of the fire in 05', so rugid and gothic.

Hi! I see you're writing a paper on the alleged hauntings of the Villa in Rock Island. It's such a terrible shame that its fate is sealed. I am preparing a preparation on hauntings in the QC area. If you'd be willing to share some info, I would certainly be obliged and you would get full credit. Please e-mail me at [email protected]
Thanks so much!

I went to school there from Kindergarten through sixth grade. As kids we would go into the cloak room and have seances. and life eachother with two fingers under eachother. Too funny. But many of the Nuns did pass away in that building, in the convent wing, and we always heard whisperings about it being haunted. But I don't remember anything tangible actually happening. A huge part of my heart died when the Villa burned.

If it is haunted they are kind and gentle souls.

I went to the Villa K=12 and keep in contact with the suviving nuns. I have relatives who also were K=12 graduates. During my time in high school, I was a student leader. I can honestly say I NEVER heard anything about the villa being haunted. Never saw any evidence of haunting. This sounds like a good someone has decided to invent!

I lived there from Aug 1997 to Jun 1998 whilst studying as an international student and I can say with some certainty it was most definitely haunted. I lived in the old nun wing and lost count of the times I could hear footsteps behind me, the elevator starting itself, doors opening etc. The worst though would be when I returned from an evening out and the room above the main entrance which at the time held a wedding dress business, the light would always be on even though it was always off when I left. Creepy.
On the third floor was the old chapel where sometimes a shadow would appear at the window.
Don't get me started on the old classrooms - the Shining springs to mind. Aah memories.
