It happened to AT LEAST one freshman a year when I was in high school, along with several other "hazing" incidents that I won't go into graphic detail about. Your stupid and blind if you think this is an out of the ordinary "incident". That being said, rules are changing and they have to be smart enough to understand that zero tolerance means you can't get away with that stuff any more.-Punished and expelled sure... Criminal charges- No. Don't take away 3 "kids" chances to be productive members of society for one mistake made in a high school locker room haze.
Wow! I'm not from this area and the ignorance and racial issues in this area are mind boggling to me, from all races. Now as for whether or not these children deserve criminal charges I disagree with you. First of all a couple of these kids have gotten into recent trouble and every incedent seems to progressively be getting more severe and violent. Where does it end, and if we don't take extreme action will it. As far as this poor child who is half black is concerned, and his mother who seems to be taking this better than I or my wife ever would, how can your stomach not turn over for what they are having to go through. If you or your friends had to go through this "hazing" then you are as hick, disturbed and as much to blame as these other kids parents are, for not stopping back in your day. Most people on this site would sing a completely different tune if it had been 4 black kids sexually assaulting one of these rich white kids. The police would have been all over that and no where near the amount of people would have complained. Heaven forbid this happens to a girl at this school if we don't stop this, but if you were the parents of a girl and these boys pinned her down and stuck their privates in her face or where ever, can you imagine how sick and angry you would be. They would get the max sentence from the school and the law. Since it is however 4 rich white kids its not a gigantic deal... do you really see that as rite or do you only see it as white...?

Hi 'really' I think most of us (with the exception of 'so-tired') agree with you. Well thought out and well worded post. However, I think it is three perpetrators. Two 18 old adults and one 16 y.o. juvenile. The court date is coming up soon, I wonder how they sleep at night.
Have a good day, really.

Too bad no one else at the school "took care" of these bullies and gave them the beatdown they deserve. It would be fun to light these cowards up, locked room, last one standing wins. Heck, I'm old but I'd pummel all 3 at once. Then I'd bust the dads and any other "tough" male relatives.

Oh well, I guess their new "boyfriends" in jail will take good care of them. Justice!

I think these kids should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. The kids that did the assaulting should be charged as adults being atleast the age or 17. They should also have to register as sex offenders. Their male genital parts touched the victims body in an unwanted manner. That is defined as sexual assault. Holding the victim down to place their genitals on his head is not a joke, but a form of assault. I will have to agree that in most schools nationwide it is the jocks and the popular people are the ones that usually tend to get away with things.

YOU SAID: "That was a school prank, it happens everywhere."

NO, IT DOESN'T. THIS KIND OF ABUSE/CRIME/SEXUAL ASSAULT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERYWHERE. MAYBE IT'S NORMAL IN YOUR SCREWED UP TOWN'S ENVIRONMENT BUT IT'S NOT NORMAL ANY OTHER PLACE. THINK ABOUT THE STRANGE WORLD WHERE YOU LIVE THAT YOU WOULD THINK THIS BEHAVIOR IS NORMAL???

ARE YOU NORMAL? DO YOU THINK YOU ARE NORMAL? LOL

When you start to live in the real world, normal people are going to think you are not normal. Think about that.

I read all these comments in response to the blog, and really people? Half of these people that commented live in cities no where near Annawan, do you even know these guys? Shame on everyone that judged them so harshly based on one article that really only shows you one view of the story. I think WQAD should shut this down. What if the boys read these things, you really want to put them through anything more than they're going through. Everyone needs to mind their own business and leave these guys alone.
Stephanie, One of these felonist boys your boyfriend or your wannabe boyfriend? Is that why you are standing up for them? Your morals and values are not normal. Go live in the real world and see some reality. Not where some people have more power than other people.

And, I hope that they read these comments. They have been coddled and told they are good boys for too long. They aren't good boys.

Just A Fact. ironic name. "skinned a feline LIVE". then allowed to join his colleages on the football field. be cognizant the impact your words have. misleading. i hope next time you u actually don't "stray no further off-topic". besides Just A Fact and his idiocy, i hope the law has a positve effect on these kids, because it's a tool that should be used to correct behavior. u want productive citizens, don't you Just A Fact, cuz they could be your neighbors.

I would just like to point out that the coverage for this incident has been giving the entire community a bad rap. Majority of the individuals that make up this community are wonderful people.
I would also like to point out that although I have not heard of any incidents where this has specifically happened at any other local schools, many, many, MANY other incidents have happened at other schools in the area where students have done wrong and not received do justice.
One tremendous story of this was when Levi Lempke of Kewanee Wethersfield skinned a feline LIVE while he was intoxicated and then allowed to join his colleagues on the football field. Many others have taken place, but this has made my point and I intend to stray no further off-topic.
My name is Levi Lempke and I love cats. I currently am the owner of a black cat. I would love to post a picture of myself and my lovely black cat, but am unable to.:) And I have never skinned a cat alive or dead. Also, you can ask Judge Ted Hammer of Henry County if I received "due" justice, which I believe so since it's been quite a few years and i still feel the effects. Thank you fan from Muscatine, IA, I helped lead the Wethersfield Flying Geese to a State Championship in 2001. I wish we could keep in touch.

Hope those 3 gutless punks get sent to county lockup where real men will do the same to them, except it'll be their pants that get pulled down, bent over and "here comes Bubba" to initiate you.
Then they'll be forced to toss some salada

Well it appears that after three year$, the 'criminal feloney' was knocked down the a class A misdemeanor. http://www.judici.com/courts/cases/case_infor... (then click on 'History' top of page) The other two charges dismissed.
Final sentencing will be in July by CHS.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Libra

Look after yourself today, dear Libra, because you don't have as much energy and self-confidence as usual. In fact, your spirits may be trailing around your ankles, making you feel wretched and listless. A pessimistic mood certainly won't help you cheer up, and you may be feeling overwhelmed by responsibilities or other people's problems. The fact is that you've got things out of proportion, but you'll feel better about them soon.
