At a time when economic conditions are rough, the Village of Mokena is jumping at the chance to make a little extra money.

Does Mokena own the land where the new pd was going to go along 191st near 104th? That seems like a nice piece of real estate that may be worth some big coin. I dont see a new pd going anytime soon with the way things are going. Might be time to unload that property as well.

I applaud Mokena for making such an effort to manage their money.
If you're in the red every year, it adds up. You don't want to cut into your reserve fund. |

Judged: 1 I have said myself that I applaud Mokena for its fiscal responsibility many times. However sometimes we all have to dip into the savings to make ends meet, Mokena should be no different. Hard choices have to be made, and I wish wisdom and good sense to those making those decisions. I will also reserve the right to have my own opinion on the matter and voice it as I feel necessary. I know that may not make me popular with administration but so be it. |

good sense?

Reserve, what rock did you crawl out from?
If those guys, the board and administrator, had been making "such an effort to manage their money" as you so put it, they wouldn't have been operating in the red the last couple of years during the gravy train run. They would have put the community developement people on the spot for lack of developing a viable downtown business despite all the money that was sunk in to redevelope Front St. They would have hired compentent people to sell the village to outside businesses and brought in solid retail developement. In addition they would not have let the old "good old boy" small town thinking rule the day. They certainly would not have put all their eggs in one basket and soley relied on new building permits to float the village expenses. So now the village is going to lay off and cut back on public safety and public services to cover the growing debt they didn't plan for. Now voters will see a degradation in their service and will more than likely see a raise in fees and taxes paid as a result of mismangangement? So Reserve crawl under that Utopia rock you came out from under and take those great thinkers you applaud and who are responsible for putting the village in the dire straits that it is in with you. How do you spell change, ELECTION and VOTE. We just saw some of that happen despite low voter turn out. Let me hear those sweet campaign promises again, because there are people (voters) that are getting fed up with the way business is being handled here. Sorry Andy, good sense left around here a long time ago with Elvis. |

i tip my hat to "biscuits and gravy" for hitting the nail on the head. and then you have trustees saying that they're lucky to have john downs! gross mismanagement for the last 20 years-how lucky is that? and who suffers? the people of mokena and the employees. what luck!

Come on biscuits and gravy you are stretching the truth. Elvis left the building in 1977. Our Elvis didnt arrive here until 1988.

Lets not forget the mokena is building a brand new firehouse less than 1 mile from orland station 6. Way to double the service and mokena can wave to orland as they pass eachother 10 times a day. Way to keep costs down!!!
|
||||
They are their own fire district right? Village of Mokena wouldn't control that. |
