The enrollment is dropping in the schools all around us and the younger age groups didn't have enough players for two teams last year. There are no longer enough children in Mokena to have two teams at each age level. If your children want the higher weight levels they can play for the Falcons or the Knights we don't need another football organization. It's a shame the children will no longer be able to play with their friends or will be lucky to have a team since your splitting them up. For the kids??????????

Actually it IS for the kids of the parents who don't want those kids playing for the foul-mouthed out-of-town thugs who are in control of the Burros. And it is very telling that you aren't really "for the kids" when you say "let them go to the Falcons or Knights".

and yes there were two burros widget teams last year, enrollment was down due to flag football expanding. Every town has 2 football programs falcons and wildcats, new lenox has 3 orland has 3. plain and simple it is to give children a choice esp. the ones that are and were miss treated.

Mokena school aged population is drastically dropping. That is a fact! That's why we're discussing closing schools! There are well established football programs that cost significantly less than Jr Griffins available. As for foul mouthed coaches, Now that's the pot calling the kettle black!

its was money mismanaged by the school district, and lost of funds from the state due to that, and thats why schools havent got the money to due activities for the kids.and the jr griffins are established and do have a program that is cheaper than the burros to play football in mokena in these desperate times of economical hardship wich football has nothing to due with schools closing. and last which coaches for the griffins had bad language towards children? according to the news paper it was burros coaches.

Coach Jim you are misinformed. Check out Mokena School District 159 enrollment numbers for the last 5 to 6 years. You're obviously an out of towner!

My children have been part of the Burros organization for many years and I still have 1 child in the program. It is very disheartening to a child when they dedicate 12 hours a week to football and then only get 4 plays. While the same 9 kids play both ways. I am not delusional about my child's talent in football. But if it is about the kids, then each child should play equally (or as best as it can be). I can remember inviting my family to watch my son play (when he was at the widget level which score is not kept). There were 2 minutes left in the game and my son had not gone in the game for a play. Come on!!! That is not about the kids that is about winning a non-scoring game. And who are you going to complain to......the very coaches that sit on the board???? Or one of the wives of the coach that sits on the board???? Then your kids are put on the Junior teams which are set up to fail... Anyone with a shred of talent stay on the regular team and again the same 9 kids play both ways and those kids that could possibly help the jr. team win a game are only playing 4 plays. They did change they way they picked kids last year and actually a couple of jr. teams won the "superbowl". I think if the Burros would really show the community that they would change their ways, this would not have happened.

Will the Jr. Griffins be any different? We will see.

Good luck to both the Burros and Jr. Griffins. I really hope you don't destroy each other because it really is about the kids having fun, making lifelong friends and yes maybe winning a few football games.

If the new league requires equal playing time for all kids I will rush to sign my kid up. A league that has this as a rule is truly about the kids and not the talent level. Kudos to jr griffins if this is true.
River Valley is the same...4 plays, but mandatory. The coach will start the game with the kids getting 4 plays so he does not forget in the heat of battle. Make sure grandma & grandpa don't arrive late. After that, starters play. Going to Jr. Griffins will not change the fact that coaches want to win games, & will play the more talented kids.
Most of the problems

United States

Most of the problems with the Burros lie with one man who chased out a good coach and leader. Can you say Sal, who is there only to win. He wanted the best team in the Varsity, and then moved down to the Junior Varsity for a year because that was the best team. Now I am sure this idea will be proven when he moves up to the Varsity again to coach what he believes will be the best team. I felt sorry for the boys last year, but was happy when Oak Forest beat the Burros and most of all Sal. I don't think there would be a Jr. Griffins if Sal with his muscle shirt and backwards hat would just move on.

Can anyone tell me which organization the guy responsible for the Burros broken and uncertified equipment the last couple of years or the guy who approved the installation of the most embarrassing and poorly installed football field in America at Main Park, is a part of? just want to make sure I join the correct one.

The burros board approved the renovations of the field, now its worse then it was. The burros board approve all the spending of money, thats why they dont get the equipment updated. The board is the reason for all the problems in the organization.

But Many of the old Burros board members(at least 4) are starting this new team. Why would it be different? Might be worse. Need to know who is who.

We've been with the Burro's for years and we've had many coaches in football, basketball and baseball. My kid says Sal's the best coach he has ever had, EVER! He gave my kid a chance when others wouldn't, and he brought out the best in my kid. Thanks Sal, see you next year!

Many of the Code of Conduct Breakers are also on the Jr Griffins that's why they're afraid to post who's who! They want you to come sign up before they tell you? Put it it writing on your web site and quit playing games. Who's running the Jr Griffins? Is there a conflict of interest with the Park District?
