Was going through City Mission stuff on Peach today. For 50 cents bought a pristine 33 rpm record "Words and Music to Dream By". Poems by Ellen H. Eff read by Canadian Skip Letcher on what was then WICU radio.
The entire cover of the album is a phot of State Street, with a view of the Koehler Beer clock, the Boston Store, Thom McCan shoe store, Jordans, Burts Shoes and others. The cars look mid 50s. The downtown looks alive and vibrant, the stores and their signs are all lit up, the sidewalk and streets look clean enough to eat off of.
Memories, anyone?

But thanks to Lou Tullio and his henchmen John Horan, Fred Rush, and Tom Hoffman, the downtown was demolished.

it doesn't look like the same place. It is a color photo. There is a sense of security and prosperity, and a water tank in the background gives a hint of industrial might. Sad.

It mentions in the liner notes that the wiic dj's hobby was flying. I take it both he and Ellen Eff were Aviators...

I would love to check that out! The YouTube clip escapes me--maybe "Timothy"--but it's played on an old record player that my brother had when we was kids.(If from Kresge's it wouldn't surprise me.)

BTW sensei is Japanese. I'm feeling like Chinese tonight. Without Googling it do you know the Chinese name meaning "instructor"?

If not you will be shot at dawn. Not by me though. It will be by your sifu ;)

Honestly without googling the Chinese term is "Sifu". The female variant is "Simu". I learned a lot from both - though the second, being a Leopard, was more fun. ;-)

my time with Simu shook me like an earthquake in my soul. Fittingly, at the time she entered my life there was a real earthquake- it was 1997. The bed shook and the walls rocked.:-)

not sure it's either s.a. or thrifty shopper. Its across from Tinseltown and the taco bell on upper peach is right across from it. Lots of nice stuff there.
