It's all fun and games until an innocent bystander is in the store and takes a bullet fired by a clerk who is scared to death! I applaud the people for fighting back, but this is a very slippery slope!

What a load of crap. The root cause is all the little black street scum who's elders failed to teach any moral values, instead taught them to steal, deal drugs ,make more babies to collect more welfare,etc. I say It's about time we clean up the streets, and shoot more of these bastards! Let me qualify that the first deaths will be:(1) thugs,(2) owners / managers / clerks, or (3) innocent bystanders / customers.
This time it was STORE 3, THUGS 0. Next time it may be different. Once the thugs start expecting the store to fire, it will escalate into a hair trigger confrontation.

And these were kids, 17 & 18 years old. Did I not say "it's not the adults in the hood you need fear, it's their KIDS".
I realize what is starting to happen (the shooting back) was inevitable and possibly even a just solution.
What I don't understand is the hatefulness being poured out in the above comments. You're angry at the proximate cause of violence, i.e. the thugs with guns.
Why is no one concerned that it is our highly uneven distribution of wealth, which creates (1) the ruling elite, who exploit the middle class,(2) the middle class, who exploit the underclass, and (3) the oppressed underclass, which rises up in violence against oppression and victimization.
This is the ULTIMATE cause of street violence. And notice that usually it is poor against poor, black on black, or them against us. No one ever attacks the ruling elite.

I already had an affirmative hood tax on my street, and its been taking care of the problems. Maybe all those opposed to CCW will see why we wanted to be able to walk the streets armed to a tee. What are the hoodies gonna do now that their income is drying up, use their degrees to revitilize the local economy? Store owners should be allowed to have cheap permits for full-auto. It's hard to line up good shots when you're under the gun and they need all the firepower they can get.

Anyways, I'm in support of clerks defending themselves or customers. That being said, it is illegal to defend PROPERTY. Clerks must understand that they can only brandish a weapon if someone is threatening to hurt them - they can't chase down a random nonviolent shoplifter with their Glock. ARTICLES RAN TWO AND THREE DAYS AGO SAID THE SUSPECTS WERE black black black black. That's right, blacker than the Ace of Spades!

And just to comment- I don't think police officers are worthless. I happen to be married to one! And each night I have to consider the possibility that he might not come home becasue he's too busy putting his life in danger to help those that think they are worthless!!!!!!!! Another commment for those that might say something about officers not living in Akron- Would you want to live in an area where you arrest people on a daily basis? Who knows when someone that you arrested spots you and your family at a restaurant and decides to dole out a little revenge. All I can say is that Thank God my husband works at a police station where residency isn't required!

I think that more people should begin shooting at these idiots that think they can just go around robbing people. I think that more people should start running over these idiots as they stand in the streets and refuse to move. I don't think that the entire Black race should be blamed & stereotyped as "thugs" and "welfare cases". There are bad apples in each and every race. If the media would actually report all the crimes that happened on a daily basis people would realize that not all black people rob, steal, and destroy communities. As a black woman, I only have one child, I work everyday, I have a MBA degree, and I have never been on Welfare, so it would be nice if people stopped making blanket statements about a race of people and comment on the situation at hand.

Are you saying white kids/people are the only people with morals. Give me a break. Black Americans steal on a much smaller scale then White Americans. Examples: Gas Prices, A Ficticious reason for war, Corporate Tax Fraud the list goes on and on. As far as the presidental election goes, people should stop voting based on color and vote based on qualifications and the desire to make a change in the country for the betterment of all people rather it be Mccain, Clinton or Obama.

It's easy for the police to recommend that store clerks not defend themselves with weapons when the police are not even there. Remember, "when seconds count, the police are just a few minutes away."

LMAO, too funny, this is the best news I have heard in weeks. With the death of a few thugs, how many lives may be saved? I would like to give a big high 5 to the store owner and also the people who told the "Smart Alec" off. Do we all have to have law degrees to avoid being called an idiot? Why give the thugs the opportunity to clog up our court system when they are threatening lives? Let the APD go about their business and the armed citizens will make their jobs easier. It make take the death of an innocent bystander before the police get REALLY involved. In the meantime blast away store owners, and threatened civilians.
