Right now we have "hard evidence" that smoking bans negatively affect businesses and all we hear from the state legislature is how it's not.

Hey Roffle, you know Ohio, how safe is it to have a meal and a drink then go to a parking lot to smoke?
Yeah

Congratulations to everyone here. You have managed to beat the proverbial dead horse to death! You realize you are solving nothing on this website, right?

If he called Strickland a liar for saying "smoking had decreased" then this would completely negate the arguement that "smoking bans keep people from using tobacco."

For some reason I'm betting Smoke-Free Ohio's going to say the proverbial dead horse died from second-hand cigarette smoke inhalation.

this was the exchange: Note, Renner said that's not true

At the morning news conference, Strickland suggested that the tobacco foundation's work wasn't as important now that a voter-approved smoking ban in bars and restaurants had Ohioans giving up tobacco.
Renner said that's not true - smoking in Ohio has held steady at about 23 percent over the last 18 months.

I've noticed that up here too, a place I sometimes hang at stopped carrying bands on Friday nights.
Might have to do with all the money they spent on their outdoor patio.
In Minnesota having to walk outdoors in sub-zero weather to smoke really draws customers out.
It's the first result of ban economic damage....live music gets cut.

Maybe antis are to paranoid to step out of their doors and realize that arts even exist.

Wow, congratulations on 10 thousand posts, blathering on and on. The smokers still think the ban will go down the tube. How, are all the smokers going to go out and vote repeal the ban? I'd bet most of them didn't even vote against it in the first place.

Oh, and I love how the bulk of the posts lately have to do with bars closing. But the topic of this has to do with Ohio private clubs. Of course the smokers don't think smoking should have been banned anywhere. Most probably think people should still be able to smoke in all public places, offices, grocery stores, hospitals.

Find me one smoking ban (especially one passed by public vote) that was overturned anywhere in the US. Or anywhere in the world.

PS This anti never said he'd go to bars more. But I am more willing to go out to eat now that I don't have to smell that stench from across the room (aisle or both divider) in the smoking section.

Linda, don't know if you or History Buff posted that WSYX story.

It said basically nothing.

Rob Crane came out of the woodwork. He was amazingly quiet last year for the most part but sure damaged Columbus in 05 with his SmokeFree Columbus TV ads with kids in a BAR..........

He stated more of a "for the children stance" that kids would not see people smoke on this news clip.

Some on the "SHS" with that wall of people or whatever "art" is outside the ACS.

Don't see the ACS pitching in to save the Columbus Symphony.

So much for their "arts" support.

Bars and restaurants are two different things.

I thought they might have taught things like that at Western Reserve Academy.

Maybe your folks should ask for their money back.

I have never seen republicans and democrats agree and work together so fast to with such lightning speed to disband and toss a group like they did the smokefree org. Wonder why, could they have finally seen the light?

I went to public school, what makes you think I went to Western Reserve Academy. I work in Hudson. And I know the difference between bars and restaurants. Maybe you should get a clue before popping off about stuff you know nothing about.

My point was I never said I would frequent bars more. I don't really care for bars much, I'd rather not pay 2-4 times the price of a drink.

Bars are going under because the smokers left, that isn't my fault. I didn't tell them they couldn't go to a bar anymore. If they can't have a few drinks with out smoking they have a problem.

The only "never" I used was in regard to my not saying I'd go to bars more. I didn't say the ban would never be overturned. You're the one who said they think it will be. But that's just you dreaming. It will NOT happen. Private clubs may get their rights back, and I wouldn't care about that. But bars and especially restaurants should be smoke free. Ohio is not the first place to do this. Even places in the south like Alabama have cities/counties with no smoking. Imagine that, hillbillies and rednecks even get it.
guess who

I agree with you SG 100%. They live in a small world and it is getting smaller every day. They are all huff and a lot of puff.

What gets me the most with these hard core smokers here is...When the bans hit...the first thing they did was boycott bars and restaurants.

Now they are using the owners as a crying towel and say "see what the ban did". It just proves how self centered and selfish they are.

Smoking is their life and if they had to make a major decision in life and chose between smoking and whatever...you bet they will be still smoking. Sad but true. All they have are hope...dreams. We can at least allow them that.
