Initially this seems like a fantastic idea all around but it honestly feels like another way for stores to make a profit by selling their bags. The plastic bags were reusable (for many other purposes). All they would have had to do is use paper bags which also are reusable.

Yes. You are right. It's just a way for revolutionary Council to shift the cost of providing grocery carry bags from their pals, "protected" Big Grocer to their overcharged customers who do not use expensive taxpayer provided food stamps . It is interesting to note that customer orientated non-unionized grocers provide - in accordance with revolutionary LAW!- free reusable carry bags. For example, the Superior Grocers' chain provide free reusable grocery carry bags made from heavy plastic material with every $20 grocery purchase.

In Egypt it's the military that overturns elections; in California it's the courts.

Yes! Exactly! It's just a way for revolutionary Council to use feel-good "environmentalism" as a cover to shift the cost of providing grocery carry bags away from their pals, "protected" Big Grocer to their overcharged customers who do not use expensive taxpayer provided food stamps. It is interesting to note that customer orientated non-unionized grocers provide - in accordance with revolutionary LAW!- free reusable carry bags. Let us not forget that wealthy environmental related NGOs are Government registered "non-profit" organizations, and therefore, the tax-free money that is reaped by their fat-cat operators is a subsidy that is imposed on the voting minority of hard working increasingly impoverished taxpayers.

If this shit happens you can order those bags cheap. Here's what you do, get them cheap off the net. Take them to the store and have them bag your stuff. After, throw them along the road at night or in the sea do as much damage as you can. Show these filthy scum they can't tell us what to think.

I am no expert in this field, but I would think industrial waste will account for the majority of waste. Charging for bags may decrease its use and thus decrease its presence in our landfills, but how big of an impact would it really have? Maybe if government officials stopped lining their pockets with corporate incentive pay or any other euphemism for bribery, they would have the balls to stop the problem at its source: the industries.

Without natural predation, one of the limits to population growth is waste. Relatively, as a species, we are awful at waste management; look at our land fill problems. We may be approaching or have exceeded the carrying capacity; therefore, inevitably nearing a decline in population sustainability. We need to start thinking about the world and its future; not selfishly and blindly pursuing money.
