Interesting that in the arrest warrant, Corey Mehaffy was asked to sign the affidavit of identity, NOT the mayor.

Hell, they knew Mayor Riley would be too busy calling MMI for a photo op and probably sign on the wrong line as he smiled for the camera.

Dear Corey Mehaffy & Department of Economics, THANK YOU. Judge Suter, THANK YOU too~

I am willing to give credit when and if credit is due, I just gotta tell ya', I just haven't been able to give anyone any credit lately!

Just because someone brings a deal to you, does not mean you have to VOTE yes on it.
Mehaffy sought to bring business to Moberly. However, he could not authorize the funds.

Moberly City Council, now they gave the authorization.

You can bring a horse to water but you cannot make him drink. Mehaffy did not force anyone to sign on the dotted line. And, I do not even mean to be sticking up for him.

I am just saying, bring me a deal and I will investigate it and see if I want to do it. The person who "brings me the deal " is not at fault. I am responsible for my own decisions. Now, if I am mislead or lied to....then mayber there is an issue.

I think we should tie Mayor Riley to some concrete blocks and dump him in the rock quarry. If he floats, he's definitely a witch.
Don't you think he was provided information he deemed reliable? Don't you also think there's four other councilmembers, a chamber of commerce, economic development, community development, downtown association, commissioners, college admin, and everyone else in between who also thought this was going to be big? Surely, you don't think Mayor Riley acted alone, as part of his evil plan to take over the world, do ya?
Moberly was kicked in the nuts, and most people go "OOOOHHHHHHH," when they see this happen instead of asking for resignations.
Pray this community & country gets back on it's feet. You don't do this by complaining at the attempts of another trying to better a community. You do this by throwing your hat in the race to see if you can do a better job.
i agree with you! he wasn't the only dumbass that made this happen, lets conduct a pole and see if they should step down, as well!

Ms. Covergirl, I don't know how you know so much. People of this community put the trust in the Mayors hands to make sure streets are paved and the kids have schools. Allowing all our money to go over to chinese people just gives them a few more dollars for their restaurants. What I wanna know is what happened to the country club? You sale that to the japenses?
"sale"??? "japenses"???

I was really hoping that the Missouri Attorney General would come in and investigate this and hold our locals accountable for NOT DOING their due dilligence and heading the warning signs.

So disappointed.

Not doing due diligence is stupid but not against the law. But the AG should be checking to see if they received any kickbacks or bribes - besides Mehaffy's Lakers tickets.

That is not entirely true. Not doing due diligence is NEGLECT OF DUTY. It was his DUTY to view a damn working factory if I paid for his butt to go over to CHINA.

77.350. The mayor shall be active and vigilant in enforcing all laws and ordinances for the government of the city, and he shall cause all subordinate officers to be dealt with promptly for any neglect or violation of duty; and he is hereby authorized to call on every male inhabitant of the city, over eighteen years of age and under fifty, to aid in enforcing the laws.

106.020. All elective executive officials of the state, judges of the supreme court, the court of appeals and circuit judges shall be liable to impeachment for crime, misconduct, habitual drunkenness, willful neglect of duty, corruption in office, incompetency, or any offense involving moral turpitude, or oppression in office.

Again NEGLECT OF DUTY would be the charge for not doing your due dilligence and screwing the tax payers. If you do not heed the warning of a Reporter that tells you things cannot be verified. If you do not let the taxpayers vote on it--then you take full responsibility.Period.

Well its not like the Police are going to do anything about it or CALL IN THE HIGHWAY PATROL to investigate it!

That would take integrity...something out Police Department just does not have!

<quoted text>This was not a $10 decision that you just make with some information that is given to you. This was a big deal and it is OUR money. We should of been allowed to vote on something this big. Plain and simple. He took full responsibility when he took the decision out of the hands of the taxpayers. He took full responsibility then, he should take full responsibility NOW and step down.
Now, we have new city council members and we can call on our old Mayors like Stone, Rucker and Burton (who is on the Council) and figure this thing out. Quit pointing fingers. Quit blaming others.
This is not some little mishap. THIS COULD OF BEEN PREVENTED! We cannot sweep this under the rug. Do you realize that this is NEWS all over the State and that Moberly has ruined future funding for other communities! The consequences are just not here amongst us.
This is big. Cannot and should not be ignored. Yes, the Council should be ashamed they did not do more. What about Moberly's Attorney that sits on the Council? But like most things, the person in charge has the most responsibility. When it all goes south-the person in charge needs to go!
This is so true! Our damn City Council needs to step up and make some changes!

We are are the laughing stock of the State and yet, our City Council acts like they do not even know they have done anything wrong. There should be charges brought.

If you think that Mayor Riley is not to blame:

Obviously you missed U.S. Government 101 in your education. As taxpayers we have the INHERENT RIGHT to complain about the performance of our government and public officials. That is what representative government is about, just in case you need a review of basic civics and U.S. History.

Accountability for performance in office is NOT a trait found very often in Moberly. Excuses are offered, but results are dubious, at best. When public officials fail to perform their due diligence, make competent and informed decisions and fail to understand or recognize the community's future needs, their job performance needs to be publicly reviewed in every venue possible.
