I just asked my mom and she said she thinks the Showboat was where the Ice House is now. She also said when she was growing up in the 40's the place they are tearing down on Concannon used to be Earl B. Noel grocery store. After that she said it was a furniture store.

We've established that. The pertinent question is whether your mom has a picture of the Blue Moon nightclub.

Heres some positive stories about Moberly. I know a man who found around 3,000 cash and 3,000 in checks in a billfold. He returned it to the rightfull owner! I know he did the right thing! Anyone remember the fire we had up town? I recall 4 bad ones. Where halmark is burned to the ground 2 across the street. One on the corner and one down by championship. And one was dollar store is?? And I forgot building that dr bodie build burned! All can say is that our firemen have fought alot of fires up town. I remember the night the ice plant burnt. The creek over by our house the next day was full of burnt crap. Anyone else remember the creek by the old community hospital? We used to play in it when we were kids. It went pass Bertly street. Now it is concrete. I wouldnt let my kids do what I did when I was growing up. Too many freaks out there.
Don't forget Patterson's burned and the big fire where that guy...Blue??....was killed. He lived in the apartment above the store.

My father and I were talking last week. Low and behold we started talking about the old Mosquitoe machine that ran in the summer. You could hear it coming for blocks. We would follow it on our bikes. It would fog all of the neighborhoods in Moberly. I think they quit running it in the mid 70s?? Also anyone ever go swimming, and having to deal with those damm Horseflys!! I dont miss them!
OMG...the fog machine. My grandparents lived on Farror (SP?)...I wonder how many carcenogenics we've been exposed to with that machine?

I think it's closed now ? but used to be go south on 63 out of Moberly, go under the overpass and right on that curve on highway, turn right and go down that road. Used to be a sign there. In later years it was turned into a church camp.

I just found this forum and all of the stories are great. I was born in 1958 and lived in Moberly until my family and I moved away in 1990. We do stop in Moberly every summer while on vacation to see relatives and friends.

I've read most of the posts in the last couple of days. Lots of them bring back memories for me. I grew up near Central School and the Junior College, attended St. Pius School and graduated from MHS and MAJC (now MACC). Some of my fondest memories were playing Optimist Pee-Wee baseball and Midget League baseball in the park.

Here's a question I have that someone may be able to answer. A friend of mine, Larry Hughes, was murdered in 1977 by two brothers with the last name of Reed. What ever became of them? I recall that they were found guilty and sentenced to prison for a long time. Are they still in prison? It was a horrible thing that they did to a guy who was a friend to everyone.
I was just talking about this with someone the other day when someone robbed Caseys.(the way they described the robber reminded my friend of the Reed boy) One of them is around the Moberly area now not sure which one. Not sure where the other is. It was a terrible thing they did. Larry was a friend to all. And all over that girl!!

Is there anyone in Moberly who has kept records of the Midget League baseball program over the years? It would be fascinating to read about the players and teams from years ago. I e-mailed Chuck Embree at the Index last year and he was going to look into it, but I haven't heard back from him.
