What kind of newspaper gets its news from asking on social media? This really shows what a rag paper it really is. Get out and do some reporting yourselves. I thought this is what a paper does.

People keep leaving there and not replaced. No real reporters. NY owners letting it die a slow death. Somebody needs to buy it out.

I think the Mirror should start up again. Hire Bob Cunningham to tell stories to the customers that come in.

Do you mean like reading the index? The only reason anybody reads that rag paper is for gossip and the police reports.

Most of the staff are already collecting full Social Security so they don't care if they lose their jobs. Why put forth the effort?

Editor gone, replaced by a kid. Big improvements promised but still no proofreading taking place - stories still being put in more than once in same paper. Some things never change unless they get worse.

There are NO employees at the Moberly Monitor Index collecting full Social Security. The long time Editor is gone as of last week. The new Editor is not a "kid". He is a well educated writer and will be bringing many needed changes to the newsroom at the Moberly Monitor Index. Once again newsroom employees are physically attending city, county, school and civic events. They will no longer sleep at their desks and wait for a fax or phone call with one sided, half ass information. For those of you that simply want to complain, there has been more local news in the Moberly Monitor Index in the past five days than has been in the entire last five months. And unless I missed something there have been NO duplicate stories in the Moberly Monitor Index in the past five days. This publication may not continue under the ownership of Gatehouse Media, Inc. forever as newspapers are bought and sold every day. But one thing is for sure, the Moberly Monitor Index has been a part of this community for over 140 years and will NOT be closing. So stop complaining and go renew or purchase a subscription. I renewed mine today for two years. Great job Monitor Index. Keep up with the improvements.

You sound like an employee. Did you see those two DAR articles, same issue, back to back? New editor, at 23, is a kid compared to the rest of the staff. 72 year old editor was getting SS until change this week. It would be great if it was no longer a Gatehouse paper. Local people need to gather their money and buy it. Should be able to get $1.98 together. About $1 more than it is worth.

Nope. Not an employee. For someone that loves to complain about the Moberly Monitor Index it is clear you read every line of every page. You must really enjoy the Moberly Monitor Index just like I do. Maybe you should go buy it yourself and you could even play like you are the editor. Sure seems like your stories change too. You went from "most of the staff are already collecting full Social Security" too only the "72 year old editor was". Because we both like to read the Moberly Monitor Index and you feel it is worth $1.98. I will put the $1.00 in if you can come up with the .98 cents.

You misunderstood. The Monitor-Index COMPANY is barely worth $1.98. If Gatehouse really wanted a good paper they would have brought in a decent reporter over a year ago when the other one quit. It is quite obvious the new guy is here to close. The age discrimination suit will probably do the trick. Go Ruth!

we quit receiving the Index several years ago. Maybe we miss some items but not much. They say the price raised because of the internet, but we get most of the news a lot quicker on the radio or central mo.com . When you cannot get the paper in the expected delivery time what do they expect? we had took the paper for 30 years but when we heard the news and more of it at 6:00 pm from Columbia channel 8 before they delivered the paper what did they expect?

This so called paper has not been worth the paper it has been written on for years, it's a gossip sheet and if you want that you get it here and more fun to read to boot. The rag of a newspaper does not report anything that does not get the approval from the powers that seem to really run it.Who cares if so and so had an uncle come for a visit, who cares what ladies club had for lunch, nobody that's who. What about the stories that are'nt so pretty Mamteck, school lunches taken away? OH NO,we would'nt want that to get out.If you want to get the nwes it seems that you like anything else here you go to Columbia to get it.Don't try to sell me that line keep it local that's laughable and just plain narrow-minded. The moniter index would'nt may good fire starter!

The online edition of the paper is even more pitiful. You can read two lines of the story and then you are asked to pay for the rest. Smaller communities around Moberly have much better online papers. Until about a month ago, they were still running obituaries online from a year ago, but always listed as "new."

New editor better teach his new "reporter" the definition of plagiarism as seen in the April 8 lunch story that was clearly written by Assistant Superintendent Roling. When are these "much needed changes" at MMI going to take place?

Never, obviously. You have seen how the Monitor Index operates (or should, if you live around these parts.) See the Mamtek fiasco.

No self respecting reporter will work there as MMI regularly violates most of the codes mandated by "ethical journalism."

And, its pretty clear that our neighboring cities report Moberly's news much better than the Monitor Index. And for much cheaper.

There isn't a single good reason to ever read the Moberly news paper again.

Moberly Monitor Index news Editor is younger than the last and can hopefully breathe some life into the paper.

Local news needs to be reported and I must say, if a local reporter tried to INTERVIEW a Moberly School employee about the lunch fiasco...they would not of been granted an interview.

All MMI was going to get was a "prepared" explanation from Moberly Schools that was probably prepared by their Attorney.

I like to read about the locals & what they are doing and have accomplished. I have seen more on Mamtek than under the last Editor. I would like to know what is going on if Moberly has been added to the lawsuit..any developments?
