Love your site - amazing photos you have amassed. I am a "newspaper" lady and would like to use some of them in Moberly's 143rd Birthday edition coming out in September.

Hey , Judy . If you are a newspaper lady you could walk out the back door an take a snap shot of the pic you commented on ? And if you really wanted a good shot of this photo ,you would have panned in on the sycamore sign up 2/3 of the way up .

I heard a lot of stories about the famous Sycamore. How they would rotate they women every week.
They brought the women in from Kansas City.

It was also told to me the place had protection from the Chief of Police, at that ara in time. The protection was for favors renderd by the women. Q

All the truth. It was running while I was in Middle school in the early 70s. Women from MS Quicny too, rotated also.

People were more naive then. It's hilarious now, knowing it sat directly across the street from the cop shop.

No, his place is further east on Coates. The one in the picture is right behind the paper office.(I think)

Oh, okay I had to up there one time after my Mom passed away because her stuipid husband tried to say that I was the one who was to co-sign for him after the idiot got drunk and arrested. I had to go up there to make sure that one did NOT happen! That was over two years ago I knew it was somewhere over by the police dept. across the street. Thanks, Imma!

The Blue building to the right is the Monitor Index. I took picture sitting in front of old Fennel building on Coates street..The building to the left is the Randoplh county Historial socity. They own the old whorehouse, too. I dont think it will be opening up any time soon!! LOL

When commenting here the site puts us as K.C. unless we specify "The Magic City", so your point is?

I grew up in Moberly. I remember the Sycamore quite well. I came home from grade school very excited about the new girl in my class. When I invited her to my house, she proudly told my mother she worked at a hotel called the Sycamore. That's when I learned what a whore house was. She was apparently the child of one of the working girls. She was only at my school for a short time.

I worked across the street at Southwestern Bell and you could see some of the men that went there. Yes some were upstanding citizens (suppose to be) of the Moberly area. Especially at nite it was busy.

Our hard earned taxes being spent very wisely. Seems to be a governing norm. The good old city officials are probably still using our tax money for pleasure instead of the community. There are plenty of examples to support this claim. Wish they would move and destroy some other town. That's mean and I'm not normally a mean person so I don't wish these idiots on another town, maybe Mars I hear there should be a colony soon. Maybe they could "help" build it :)

A lady named Linda used to work there, I think she lives over by Huntsville now, I bet she could tell you about it. I'll ask my wife what her last name was.
